Conflict of interest?

[edit]

This article has been edited by a series of single-purpose IP's and is likely an autobiography. This represents a conflict of interest, and violates the neutrality policy of Wikipedia. Editors should read Advice for editors who may have a conflict of interest and address the many issues this article has been tagged on. RockMagnetist (talk) 16:02, 26 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Attesting to veracity

[edit]

As a known Wikipedia editor; I attest that I have had no prior knowledge of this particular article before today (and thus had no part in creating it), but I believe the content to be accurate - given my knowledge of Professor Shukla. I will freely admit that I know and respect this individual, but I have no incentive to speak on his behalf and no agenda aside from truth in journalism. The link below contains the official conference photos from the 10th Frontiers in Fundamental Physics conference, which is where he and I met and where we both presented. While I am in the group photo (2/3 left, 2nd or 3rd row from back), you can see that Padma Shukla was photographed between two Nobel laureates, Professors Doug Osheroff and Gerard 't Hooft - as one of the main organizers. As I recall; Professor Shukla was at the time also a member of the Swedish Academy's Physics class - who select candidates for the Physics Nobel Prize.

So while there may be a question about the writer's identity and/or propriety, it would appear that the glowing description in the article is well-earned by the good professor, as Shukla is the real deal. Could it perhaps be the case that someone anonymously copied over a translation of the article from the German language version? Is there a way to do that legitimately, if that were the case? I have not investigated. It may be that I am not entirely neutral – regarding Professor Shukla – and should recuse myself on the basis of friendship, but I felt I should comment here, rather than leaving all the red flags with no feedback. My observation is that Shukla is very well-loved in the community his research touches, and likely deserving of kudos. But I will freely admit the page sounds more like an enumeration than a description - so it could use a fair amount of work, perhaps by describing some of his important research.
