- I contribued the page 'Packt' to Wikipedia as a reference tool mainly for authors and open source projects. It isn't intended as advertising and I would welcome any suggestions to change the text so that it doesn't appear that way. I had used O'Reilly Media http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/O%27Reilly_Media and APress http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apress as a guideline for my entry Damian Carvill 01:07, 4 December 2006 (UTC)
- I'm surprised you're thinking of deleting this page, it is used by the Open Source Content Management community as a reference point for the Open Source CMS Awards, for past and present winners. Packt is also a valuable contributor to open source projects in general and this page acts as a reference point for them. I don't agree with deleting it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 122.169.111.5 (talk) 03:35, 30 January 2009 (UTC)
- The winners of the awards all mention it on their websites (Award Roundup: Joomla! Takes Runner-up, Wins Packt Publishing's 2008 "Best Other Open-Source CMS" Award, wins 2008 Best PHP Open Source CMS from Packt Publishing, Wins Packt Publishing Overall 2007 Open Source CMS Award) and sites about open source CMS' often mention them. Their books are often reviewed by sites like slashdot [1]. 203.59.93.81 (talk) 04:05, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

One man show?
[edit]Are there any good references to suggest that this publisher is anything other than a one-man show? From the packt site, the only name mentioned is David Barnes, and he identifies himself variously as aquisition editor, series editor, author relationship manager and so on. His blog is also prominently featured on each of packt's pages. True there are several book reviews on slashdot, but it seems they're all from "Michael J. Ross" and submitted to slashdot after he had received a promo copy of the book from packt. Not really an independent source. Thrapper (talk) 08:38, 20 April 2010 (UTC)
It's not. The guy who founded it, his son goes to my school, and he came and did a talk about it last year. There's at least 5 employees. Joemalt1832 (talk) 18:59, 2 November 2011 (UTC)
I am David Barnes of Packt Publishing and believe me if I was running the whole show I'd never stop bragging about it. Packt now employs about 200 people spread between Birmingham, UK and Mumbai, India. -- David Barnes, 11/Sep/2012 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.166.189.137 (talk) 09:53, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
I am about to start work with Packt in a week. I have personally been in contact with more than two dozen employees. Also, this allegation is over eight years old. Can this be removed? Emeri1md (talk) 19:07, 23 September 2020 (UTC)

"Controversies" allegation -- removal request
[edit]A new section has been added to this page, alleging that Packt:
"has been the subject of numerous complaints filed with the FTC and IC3.gov for fraudulent practices including charges of billing credit cards for products and services not rendered."
We (including our head of finance) are not aware of any complaint filings with the FTC or IC3. The allegation does not cite any sources. We therefore ask that it be removed.
Thanks
David Barnes Managing Editor, Packt Video
Open Source Awards
[edit]Should we update the Open Source Awards section using an awards template? Years 2012-2018 are missing and i am not sure if they should be simply mentioned or added in the same manner presented for 2011.
