Interwiki

[edit]

An Interwiki link has just been added to ru:Темп i.e. to a DAB page in the Russian Wikipedia whose primary meaning as a Russian word is a translation of the primary meaning of "Pace" as an English word. All the other Interwiki links are to DAB pages for, literally "pace" in the respective language, giving a range of words and names that have nothing to do with the meaning of the English word. I think that the Russian link is wrong for this page: what do others think? --ColinFine (talk) 22:03, 6 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of Pace (speed) into Pace

[edit]

nothing much in Pace (speed) other than dictionary definitions. fgnievinski (talk) 03:13, 27 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Keep: Although I don't have a strong position on the matter, I lean towards keeping the Pace (speed) article because it can provide more details and context about the concept of "pace" that is usually not appropriate for a disambiguation page. OvertAnalyzer (talk) 00:54, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • I am in the process of reconsidering my position. With respect to music "Pace" should be covered in the Tempo article. Other uses of the term Pace possibly could briefly described on the disambiguation page, and covered further by the Wiktionary link. OvertAnalyzer (talk) 02:28, 12 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
    • Merge: After thinking about this more, it does appear the article is a conglomeration of definitions. Unless someone has a plan to make a real article, I think it should be merged.
    • It appears everything in the Pace (speed) article is already covered in the Pace (disambiguation) page, so no actual merge is necessary. Just delete the "Pace (speed)" article. OvertAnalyzer (talk) 14:51, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not Merge: in athletics, where this discussion is taking place, pace and speed are completely different things. speed is distance covered per unit time, so we have a speed of 30 miles per hour or 45 metres per second. while pace is the obverse, it is time per unit distance. this gives us a pace of 5:00 per mile or 3:00 per kilometre. the two are completely different things and merging the pages is counter-intuitive and definitely not encyclopedic. • Merge: I'm afraid I misunderstood what the discussion was about and I am going to change my decision. from my perspective, since pace and speed are different things, the very existence of a page called Pace (speed) is counter-intuitive and non-encyclopedic. I understand the requirement to define categories of Pace, so we get Pace (horse gait), Pace (Latin) and Pace (narrative), and so forth, but (speed) is the worst word that could have been chosen. Pace (rate of movement) would be my suggestion for an alternative. I am therefore going to vote for merging into the disambiguation page. Cottonshirtτ 01:02, 23 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
