Pronounciation
[edit]How do you pronounce the name 'Sarasate'? 212.76.37.162 10:51, 6 November 2005 (UTC)
- As it sounds: Basque and Spanish have quite approximate phonetical scripts. --Sugaar 21:34, 6 November 2006 (UTC)

- My father was a violinist, and violinists always said sa-ra-ZAHT, as if he were French. (He left Spain at twelve and I believe resided in France until his death.) I never heard the Spanish pronunciation in the US until the nineties, when radio announcers began using the Spanish pronunciation. I've seen no evidence how he preferred it; I suspect he had four syllables when performing in Iberia and three when performing elsewhere, just as "Itzak Perlman" today is pronounced differently in New York and Israel. At least we can say that sa-ra-ZAHT is not wrong. To me it is preferred.C. Cerf (talk) 19:46, 7 October 2010 (UTC)
