"pv." in biology (bacteriology)

[edit]

Does anyone know what "pv." means in the context of bacterial taxonomy (e.g., as in "Xanthomonas vasicola pv. musacearum" www.academicjournals.org/AJB/PDF/pdf2007/16Apr/Biruma%20et%20al.pdf)? If so, could someone pls. add a page [at least a stub, or a "Wiktionary" entry] with this info & add a link to it from this disambig. pg? Is "pv" used in printing?

[edit]

I found hand-written marginalia in which "pv" clearly referred to the verso of the title page of a book, but I can't find any documentation online of this usage. I've seen the phrase "title page verso" several times, but never a phrase which is just "p* verso". Does anybody know of such a phrase, or of any documentation that "pv" is used to refer to the verso of a title page? 67.183.64.49 (talk) 16:17, 4 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]
