Born a creole?
[edit]If we know that he is of very mixed origins, then we definitely cannot assert that he was born a creole. Let us remember that Latin American creoles are those of completely European descent.
A search of name origin shows the name Pico originates in northern Italy during the 6th century AD. It originally meant man from Picardy, a region of what is now France. It is first mentioned in the Italian town Treviso in Venetia. Most likely the first Pico travelled to Italy via ship. Later members of the family immigrated from Italy to Spain and then to the new world.
This would indicate that Pico is either Celtic or Frankish in ethnic origin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.176.201.90 (talk) 23:43, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
Further research proves the name is Celtic in origin. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.176.201.90 (talk) 23:47, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
Alvarado
[edit]Why does the article say Pio Pico was the last Mexican governor of Alta California if he was succeded by Juan Bautista Alvarado in 1837? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 201.8.252.44 (talk) 20:55, 14 March 2008 (UTC)
Inaccurate date or description
[edit]In the "Business Life" section the second paragraph begins, "By the 1850s Pico was one of the richest men of Mexican Alta California." By 1848, Mexican Alta California was the US territory of California. So either the date is inaccurate (should be 1840s, or even 1830s?), or "Mexican Alta" is an incorrect descriptor for California here.Przip (talk) 14:54, 24 May 2008 (UTC)
Helping a friend
[edit]I added the section where it shows the subject as a honorable man standing by his friend and paying the cost. John R. Carpenter Jrcrin001 (talk) 09:16, 4 June 2009 (UTC)
- This has almost nothing to do with Pio Pico. It is all about Lemuel Carpenter. Recommend moving to that article.Emargie (talk) 00:46, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Yes the intro is long but it does provide how loyal he was to his friends and the difficulty adjusting to a new culture. Plus it shows the start of his financial downfall. Feel free to sumarize the section. John R. Carpenter Jrcrin001 (talk) 19:44, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
Pico Boulevard
[edit]Is Pico Boulevard in Los Angeles named for Pio Pico or Andres Pico http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Andr%C3%A9s_Pico ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.167.176.62 (talk) 04:41, 23 October 2009 (UTC)
Photo date of 1848
[edit]The new photo of Pio Pico in the Medical history section includes the date of 1848. This is a common error and should be changed to the correct date of 1858. I have an exact copy of the original image granted to me from the Bancroft Library to permit our publication of the medical history of Pio Pico which was the basis for the Wiki entry of his medical history (reference #3). Just beneath his oval image and sadly, cut off from the Wiki published picture, is the inscription, “Don Pio Pico – 1858.” If you go to the original web site for this photo, http://www.oac.cdlib.org/ark:/13030/tf5v19p1bx/
and enlarge the image you will see exactly what I am describing. The notation in the url figure title, “in the style of 1848” refers to something about the style of the image that was taken but has nothing to do with the date of the image. This error is critically important to the medical history and needs to be changed. I wanted to avoid conflict as much as possible so I thought it would be best to bring this topic to the discussion/talk page first before changing the error. I look forward to a reply from someone about this and would appreciate some guidance about exactly how to change the error if this point is accepted. Thank you Samson22911 (talk) 15:13, 17 June 2010 (UTC)
Quotes
[edit]Per WP:NOTQUOTE, If you want to enter lists of quotations, put them into our sister project Wikiquote.
So, I have removed the quotes in the quote section, which, although sourced and apparently interesting, can go into a new entry in Wikiquote with a link back to this article. Epic Genius (talk) 13:35, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
- The above is just one editor's opinion, not a WP:Consensus. The above editor should re-read WP:3RR and check the timing of his or her deletions of this material. Sincerely, GeorgeLouis (talk) 17:05, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
- Agreed. There is no hard-and-fast rule about quotes. Deleting interesting, sourced material over a technicality (rather than fixing it), without consensus is not WP:ETIQ. WCCasey (talk) 01:38, 6 March 2015 (UTC)
- FYI, I never once broke 3RR on this page. Epic Genius (talk) 19:18, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

Until this is resolved, here is the material from the deleted section:
During the Mexican–American War, arguing for Mexican troops to defend California:
What are we to do then? Shall we remain supine, while these daring strangers are overrunning our fertile plains, and gradually outnumbering and displacing us? Shall these incursions go on unchecked, until we shall become strangers in our own land?[1]
On being invited to appear at the Columbian Exposition:
If those gringos imagine for a moment they can take me back there and show me in a side tent at two bits a head they are very mistaken.[2]
- The line quoted above from WP:NOTQUOTE is followed by "Of course, there is nothing wrong with having lists if their entries are relevant because they are associated with or significantly contribute to the list topic." WCCasey (talk) 07:42, 6 March 2015 (UTC)

was invoked but never defined (see the help page).
- Have either of you noticed that the material was transferred to Wikiquote four days ago? Neither of these quotes are particularly defining of Pio Pico, and IMO they do not "significantly contribute to the list topic", so my point stands. Epic Genius (talk) 19:17, 10 March 2015 (UTC)
Cause of death??
[edit]I just removed 2 categories pertaining to his death as there is no info on this point in the article. I presume the cause of death was recorded, so perhaps one of the regular editors could add a sentence about this... Regards, Cgingold (talk) 07:22, 1 April 2015 (UTC) It says hehad a disease mabey died from that.
