Possible Error Regarding Term Length And Successor
[edit]I have noticed a possible discrepancy between this article and the article I created on current Chickasaw Nation Governor Bill Anoatubby. According to this article and its sources James's term as Governor ended in 1985, and he was succeeded as Governor by Anoatubby, but according to the sources I used to create the article on Anoatubby, he did not become Governor until 1987. Any assistance from my fellow Wikipedians in determining the correct dates for the end of James's term and the beginning of Anoatubby's term, or if another Governor served in between James and Anoatubby would be most appreciated. --TommyBoy (talk) 06:13, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- You raise a good point. I agree that two sources create some confusion about the end of James's governorship and the election of Bill Anoatubby. Since Anoatubby was the Lieutenant Governor elected at the same time Overton James was re-elected, perhaps he was named Acting or Interim Governor or automatically succeeded James until the 1989 election. However, I have not found a source that confirms this supposition. Bruin2 (talk) 15:47, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- According to Anoatubby's biography on the Chickasaw Nation website which is listed in the article's "References" section, he was elected as Lieutenant Governor in 1979, and subsequently reelected in 1983 before his first election as Governor in 1987. No mention is made of him serving as Acting Governor from 1985 to 1987. --TommyBoy (talk) 17:28, 24 March 2013 (UTC)
- While doing more research on Bill Anoatubby, I came across the "Past Governors" section of the Chickasaw Nation Governor's website which contains a short biography and photo caption of Overton James in which it is implied that James completed his service as Governor in 1987, at which Anoatubby was first elected and sworn in as Governor. - In addition, I also came across this list of Governors on the Chickasaw Nation website which clearly states that James served as Governor until 1987. [2] --TommyBoy (talk) 05:33, 19 August 2013 (UTC)
