Heavy use of backing tapes
[edit]I'm just watching this film now. As has been mentioned, it makes heavy and obvious use of backing tapes; in fact it's not clear whether any of the songs can be said to have been recorded "live". This is because of the detailed and highly-produced nature of the music which would make it difficult or impossible for live performances of ELO's songs to sound as studio-perfect as they do here. The backing tapes weren't accidental as is claimed in the article, they were essential for this tour. What was possibly overlooked is that close-up camera shots would make this obvious, so visual effects are plastered all over it. We seldom see clear shots of guitar solos, for instance. The string section are running around barely pretending to play their violins and cellos, and there are many more on the soundtrack than there are performers on-stage, because for the studio albums they were multi-tracked. Why is it authoritatively claimed that the use of backing tapes was an unfortunate error? Peter Galvani (talk) 17:32, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
