Incorrect definition
[edit]The definition of outer space is not correct. At the end of the first paragraph it must be "the valency of each vertex should be at least 3." instead of 2. This can be read in Vogtmann (2002) cited in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.176.180.213 (talk • contribs)

Ridiculous article
[edit]The article is supposedly on the subject of the outer automorphism group of the free group Fn.
But instead we are treated to a whole completely inappropriate section about "outer space". It is the section immediately after the first line of the article.
That means that 20 lines of irrelevant text intervene between the first (introductory) line of this article, and the section discussing the structure of these groups. That is not even counting the section titles.
I use the word "irrelevant" deliberately. Of course, outer space is related to Out(Fn). But for someone coming to this article trying to understand Out(Fn), outer space is much too esoteric and advanced to appear at this point of the article.
There is already an entire article about outer space. There is nothing wrong with mentioning outer space in this article, but it is not the subject of the article. So it certainly should not appear before the section discussing the structure of Out(Fn). - I shuffled the sections, so that the more basic statements come before the teichmuller stuff. That should resolve the above complaint. 67.198.37.16 (talk) 04:32, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
