Are we sue about the translation Gracht to Canal. Canal means Kanaal, although the Oude Gracht is gekanaliseerd (canalised) it used to be a natural river. Note that the Utrechtse Oude Gracht is a completely different Gracht compared to the Amstedams grachten (which did not exist prior to their digging). That the word is the same in Dutch, does not mean it should be translated to same in English. Does anyone has a better solution. Until then I would not translate it at all. It's not at all certain inhowfar the Oudegracht follows the course (or a course) of the old Rhine. At least part of it is definitely artificial. The very name "gracht" means it has been dug. See also [1] --Joostik (talk) 19:53, 22 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
