Descent
[edit]According to The Military Channel (Clash of Warriors), his father was a Jewish businessman. The Prussian generals, such as Hans von Seeckt, had contempt and disdain for his "bourgeois" background and didn't give him necessary support in the Palestine campaign and its Battle of Megiddo, which was lost as a consequence.Lestrade (talk) 14:53, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Lestrade
Sanders
[edit]A German named "Sanders" is unusual. The Military Channel (Clash of Warriors) said that he used the name "Sanders" because it came from his wife's Scottish ancestry.Lestrade (talk) 16:52, 22 June 2010 (UTC)Lestrade
No. Sanders is very well a german name. And not really uncommon. That says sombody from Germany. And i have to know it, don´t you think ? By the way - we don´t need scottish ancestry for our family names. We have our own history. It would be nice, when you finaly start to respect that. Thank you.
Incomplete/wrong information
[edit]von Sanders was a major force behind Ottoman army's atrocities against the Armenians, ethnic Greeks, and other Christian populations residing in Minor Asia for centuries. In the process more than 2 million Armenians and 1.5 millions Greeks were slaughtered or condemned to starvation, acts that modern historian regard as genocide.
Von Sander's role in Gallipoli War is overly exagerated and misguiding in this article. References are insufficent and not objective. By reading it, i can assume that it only shows his own perpective and based on his own diaries/writings.

WWI did not begin on 28 June 1914; this is the date of the assassination of Franz Ferdinand. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.38.195.5 (talk) 21:34, 13 August 2014 (UTC)
The only "Incomplete/wrong information" here is that text from above
[edit]I do not know, where this "author" from the text above has got his informations, because nothing of that is true. The REALITY is quite the opposite. I can only guess, that the author is a turkish nationalist, who wants to rewrite the history and make everybody else responsible and guilty for the genocide they have committed on the non-muslims in their country at that time (not only the Armenians, but also Greeks ! and others). Or it is one of the common anti-german haters, which are so often seen in the english wikipedia.
In every SERIOUS source of WW1, in archives, in collections of materials and memories, even in official parlimantary investigations, you can find two things: 1. Otto Liman von Sanders and the other german officers were mainly responsible for the victory of the ottoman troops in the battle of Gallipoli due to the re-organisation and leadership of the ottoman military. 2. Otto Liman von Sanders was the only one who - actively - prevented (!!!) attacks on non-muslims in the area where he held any military power and safed as well armenians and greeks from deportation and killing by the turks !!! That is the reality. He even had to threaten the turks with the use of weapons against them (his then allies !) to prevent the attacks against the non-muslims! That´s why this region (west turkey and the levante)were the only areas in the turkey where the massacres did not occur !!! How you can make the saviour of the armenians in that area to the main guilty or the main perpetrator/offender is far beyond my understanding. I can´t understand how such a forgery of history is still possible? In such a degree/extent. The only guilty ones in that genocide were the turks - and nobody else ! By the way especially the infamous Enver Pascha!(look him up !) I can only suppose anti-german resentiments behind it.
The motivation can only be historical revisionism, nationalism and nothing but defamatory lies.
But i will not - and can not - accept these incredible lies without saying something !
I let that text - above mine - stand here, so that everyone, who is interessted in that part of the WW1-history, can and should make their own judgement - due to the existing sources and not due to - howsoever motivated - lies.
Sanders pushing Young Turks to commit genocide against all Christians
[edit]The fact that the editor "216.130.89.238" is basically anonymous and offered no source doesn't mean we can dismiss the topic out of hand. I did a very short research and found the following: 216.130.89.238 had it from a horribly poor news article from the propaganda platform "Greek City Times", quoting a furious speech by General Frangoulis Frangos, former Greek Minister for National Defence no less, given in 2018 for the benefit of "Pontian Greeks living in Toronto". So definitely not a Turkish nationalist, and a post-junta general. The man can easily be dismissed as furiously and incongruously babbling away without indicating a source, but he's not an academic, might have been onto something, as improbable as it might look, and we should look into it. If it's all just rumours from the Greek military academy's boozy parties, ignore it. But if there's any shred of real evidence, quote it. Cheers, Arminden (talk) 08:08, 21 May 2020 (UTC)
