Allentown, Pennsylvania
[edit]An anonymous user continues to remove the team's scheduled move to Allentown, Pennsylvania in 2008. Please stop. It is verified and done and a very critical part of this article. Thank you. PAWiki 23:16, 9 September 2006 (UTC)
- I second this. If you have an issue with the facts and/or whether it should be included or not, let's discuss it here instead of just getting into an edit war. -- dakern74 (talk) 01:25, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
This information should not be included until a deal has been finalized. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:70.28.3.168 (talk • contribs) .
I agree with you on that point, and I actually reverted the details on the first day also until a citation was added. However, the linked article from the Allentown paper indicates that the International League made an official announcement, including a quote from the league president with the details. Is this in dispute? -- dakern74 (talk) 02:38, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- It sounds like the team has been sold but the stadium still needs to be built, right? —Wknight94 (talk) 02:40, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Reads that way. -- dakern74 (talk) 02:42, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- I re-worded to make the future a little less certain. (They said a new road by my house "will be done in 2005". Almost 2007 now and we're still waiting). Is this more satisfactory to everyone? —Wknight94 (talk) 02:51, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- Guess we'll find out. My cite #3 does admit that the Lynx GM wouldn't confirm or deny, but what do you expect. If this keeps going, we'll just add a couple "it was announced that"s here and there. Thanks for the help. -- dakern74 (talk) 02:54, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- My point is that it doesn't matter who says what will happen in 2008 - it needs to be tempered with some degree of uncertainty. I'm sure there were plenty of "this will happen in 2006" and "that will happen in 2006" for New Orleans... but unforeseen things can always happen. —Wknight94 (talk) 03:01, 10 September 2006 (UTC)

- This is a contractually done deal. Their affiliation with the Orioles will end at the end of this season and the Orioles already have contracted with Sranton/Wilkes Barre. The team is contractually obligated to become part of the Phillies franchise at the end of this season, and it is equally obligated to the move in April 08. Sure, things could happen. But this is not a speculative issue any longer, as it maybe once was. It is as done as done gets in baseball. PAWiki 03:12, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
Sorry but this is starting to sound like an Allentown lovefest. This article is still about the minor league baseball team, the Ottawa Lynx — why is there suddenly a sentence about how much Allentown, PA loves the NFL Philadelphia Eagles? Is a detailed history of the association between Bethlehem, Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia Flyers coming next? Can we tone that down a bit? This is how a mini-edit war was breaking out here in the first place a few days ago. —Wknight94 (talk) 13:10, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
Agreed, none of this additional Allentown info should be on within this entry. In addition, the part about the affiliation going to Philadelphia. Teams are not allowed to enter into agreements with Major or Minor league teams until the beginning of October. while some in the media may be reporting it, and it may eventually happen, it is impossible for it to be a contracted agreement through either Minor League Baseball or Major League Baseball. Please start another entry with any and all Allentown references you want to make. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.87.255.110 (talk • contribs) .
- The agreement for the Lynx to become a Phillies affiliate is complete, as reported. The agreement for them to leave Ottawa also is complete. Please stop your deletions, which really constitute vandalism of the page. PAWiki 20:50, 11 September 2006 (UTC)
- Everyone's going too far. I didn't say that nothing about Allentown should be put into the article - I just said it was stretching a bit far (and was almost starting to sound like rubbing it in). On the other hand, disagreeing with the content and removing it is not vandalism - just a bad edit. —Wknight94 (talk) 00:36, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
Pawtiki you are reportin false information. It is impossible for an affiliation to have been contracted as of yet. Just because a reporter says so does not make it fact. I also find no reason why Allentown's love of the Eagles should be in an article about the Ottawa Lynx. Please do not keep adding this. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.28.3.168 (talk • contribs) .
- Please don't remove content without even an edit summary and without discussing things here first. Also, please sign your talk page posts with ~~~~. I will agree that there is nothing about a "contract" in the cites so you may want to change that wording to more closely fit the references: "league approval" and "sale" as opposed to contract. Just to keep the peace. Also, the section about Allentown's support is unsourced and unnecessary. Removing it is far from vandalism but let's agree to something here before removing it again. —Wknight94 (talk) 01:11, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
- On second thought, I looked closer and the Eagles training camps aren't even in the same county as Allentown! I snipped it as simply too far removed from the Ottawa Lynx which is still the name of this article. The Lehigh Valley love is sufficiently covered in Allentown, Pennsylvania and doesn't need to spread to every article remotely connected to Allentown. Let's be reasonable. —Wknight94 (talk) 02:41, 12 September 2006 (UTC)
The team is still playing in the International League, and still playing at Lynx Staidum, the past tense should not be used here. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.87.255.110 (talk • contribs) .
- No, there no longer is a team called the Lynx. That team got sold. New AAA affiliation is the Phillies. New location (in '08) is Allentown. And the new name will be announced in a few weeks. PAWiki 00:08, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
So who is playing in the International League in 2007? You are posting inaccuracies. see www.ottawalynx.com or www.ilbaseball.com The Ottawa Lynx still exist. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.87.255.110 (talk • contribs) .
New Affiliation
[edit]Their affiliation still says Orioles, I'm trying to switch it to Phillies. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by NightHawk2005 (talk • contribs) .
- That's good. Also, the Lynx no longer exist and this article reads like they are still a team. They have a new team affiliation, a new name (in a few weeks), and soon a new location. The Lynx have been shut down and a new team has emerged in its place. PAWiki 00:07, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
Where is your proof that they have been shut down? They open the 2007 season on April 6th in Rochester, and at home on April 17th against Charlotte. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 209.87.255.110 (talk • contribs) .
- There is no team known as the Lynx. It will be renamed on November 16 as part of its new Phillies affiliation. This team no longer exists. The new team will require a new article and title. And, obviously, it's Ottawa affiliation is ending. PAWiki 16:00, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- 209.87.255.110, I think it's time to stop fighting it - the team is done. I wonder, though, should the content here be carried to the new team and this page turned into a redirect? I've had difficulty determining a standard for cases for like this. (Also, please remember to use ~~~~ to sign your talk page posts...) —Wknight94 (talk) 17:26, 19 October 2006 (UTC)
- There are many comparable cases to this--and typically this article would be maintained for its historical value, and the other article might make a briefer reference to the historical origins of the team. This article should be preserved. PAWiki 15:39, 20 October 2006 (UTC)
edits
[edit]For some reason, people continue to edit this as the Lynx no longer exist. This information is incorrect, and cannot be substantiated, so it is asked that these edits please stop. The Ottawa Lynx currently play in the International League, and have their 2007 season schedule confirmed and adopted. Without proof or justification of these facts, incorrect edits shoud not be allowed on this or any other site within Wikipedia. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 64.136.164.35 (talk • contribs) .
- I agree and I cleaned up the wording in the article to reflect this. We know the 2007 season will be their last (or at least, is expected to be), but let's wait until that 2007 season plays out before we change everything to past-tense. -- dakern74 (talk) 15:16, 21 October 2006 (UTC)
Also, while the team is in talks, and there has been league approval, the fact is that the team has not been sold as of yet. Ray Pecor still owns the ballclulb, and any reference to ownership shoudl be aware that this deal has not been finalized. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.28.3.168 (talk • contribs) .
- Enough with the revert war before blocks start. PAWiki, if you want this to stay a historical article, then why do you keep changing the ownership to reflect the new team? Let's hash this out here because you're all confusing me and I'm getting dizzy with this popping up in my watchlist four times a day. —Wknight94 (talk) 22:17, 23 October 2006 (UTC)
I agree. The bottom line is that the ballclub still exists. They have a 2007 schedule, they are still operating as a business, and Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball, and the International League still recognize them as a current member.
- I think this reads fine now, provided that the new name is not immediately effective. Is it? Or does it not take effect until April 2007? The article now correctly references that the team is under new ownership, that the Orioles affiliation has ended, that 2007 is the last in Ottawa and 2008 the first in Allentown, and that the team is now with the Phillies. When does the new name--to be announced in two weeks--take effect? PAWiki 17:25, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
This is a page for the Ottawa Lynx. This team is a current member of the International League. If the team moves to Allentown, then one can create this as a historical piece. The constant references to a potential team in Allentown should be saved for another page if, that team starts playing in Allentown. Why not create this new piece and keep the Ottawa Lynx page about the Ottawa Lynx?
IronPigs
[edit]Am I alone in thinking this is about the most absurd name they could have selected?? A page should be started for them, however. PAWiki 15:54, 12 November 2006 (UTC)
OK, now that we have the Lehigh entry in, I propose that we take all of the mentions about this team and put them under the new entry.
edits, part 2
[edit]The info that has been deleted from this page makes more sense under the other entry, and not in this piece. That info is relevant to Lehigh Valley and not the Ottawa Lynx.
Was vs. were
[edit]I know it is awkward to read that the Ottawa Lynx "was a team," not "were a team," but it's true. A team is one thing. I'm going to change it back to "was," and I request that it not be changed again without discussion on this page. Thanks. Mikehillman 15:15, 27 September 2007 (UTC)
