Sonero Mayor?
[edit]Untitled
[edit]Wasn't Ismael Rivera the formal holder of the moniker? Demf 15:52, 16 January 2007 (UTC) Yes, I think so, but I think that this phrase was adquired by Ismael until Oscar appeared.
kevintimba chiming in: I'm not sure about this, so not changing page, but I think the confusion stems from this: 1) Ismael Rivera is definitely called El Sonero Mayor and has been since the 1950s - the only controversy is whether it was Beny Moré who gave him that apodo or someone else - there's some talk that the Beny thing was an urban legend although Beny definitely went to PR and definitely loved Ismael. 2) Oscar d'León definitely had a band called La Salsa Mayor (this I suspect is the source of the confusion - salsa versus sonero) 3) BUT I don't know for sure that Oscar d'León was never called Sonero Mayor
that's all I've got on that, but I'd like to point out that of all the major salsa artists, this one has the worst discography, not only here, but at All Music. Discogs looks a little better but it would be great to fix this one up perfectly. The confusion I'm having (which is what brought me here to begin with) is trying to find the original albums for all of his big hits. He was with Dimensión Latin until the late 70s and by the time he made his celebrated tour of Cuba he was already doing a lot of big hits that I can't seem to find on pre-1982 albums of either OdL or Dimensión Latina - only on compilations that don't give the original dates. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kevintimba (talk • contribs) 11:36, 27 February 2014 (UTC)
