Osa short for Osama

[edit]

I encountered "Osa" at http://www.publicradio.org/columns/prairiehome/posthost/2007/10/04/hi_mr_keillor_i_am.php (word search "Osa Oyegun"). After some sleuthing around, I come up with, Name: Osama; Gender: Male; Meaning: Lion at http://www.names4muslims.com/ (you have to enter Osa in the text box at the upper right, with the label: "Name or First letter." And I get identical results, among several other distinctly less likely candidates that contain the same three letters (osa), at http://www.muslim-names.co.uk/

The significance of all of this runs in particular to the gender question that permeates the comment section of this blog entry. In fact, there would almost seem to be good cause for parsing all names of all the world's cultures. You can get some of that just through Google, but not short ones, like Osa, which much as this list amply illustrates, have a myriad of other meanings.
