Some Minor Edits

I corrected a couple of spelling mistakes and added a line to the section entitled "Self Reference". I hope it meets everyone's approval. SpencerCollins (talk) 04:49, 8 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Source? Really Escapade 1964?

[edit]

I have seen the reference to Escapade magazine everywhere and apparently it originates from some note of Dick's literary agent or agency (SMLA), but I have never, ever seen any additional reference or even proof of this. There is no reference of the actual issue or the volume anywhere... I have seen some 1964 issues of Escapade (there are 6, I believe and possibly some annual special edition) and none of them contained the story. Nobody ever mentions it except quoting this somewhat dubious original quote. And I have seen the question of the existence of the story (in Escapade) being raised in collector's circles. So if anybody can provide some additional information, please do so. Otherwise if somebody feels competent (with English & wikipedia), some mention of the uncertainty of the information can be added ("supposedly published" maybe?). The story was published in the Collected stories (1987) and never before (except, maybe, in Escapade). I put this in- my source was in the notes to my collection where I read the story: "The Minority Report and Other Classic Stories". The full citation says:
ORPHEUS WITH CLAY FEET 4/16/63 [published in Escapade circa 1964 under the pseudonym Jack Dowland].
so even that is a bit equivocal. A quick look with google turns up other people (maybe you?) debating this. I don't think I can do any better than their research. Not sure what we can say in the article- the Escapade citation is likely the only one which can be reliably sourced, even though it seems like it might be false.
