Is this group a subset of, or the same as, Oromo people? According to Orma language, Orma is derived from Oromo. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 21:09, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
The Orma described here are descendants from the Oromo. In my opinion they should be called the Tana Orma as this group has a specific history and live in an area which does not border on Oromo territory. I will do a completer revision of this article.Jerome KL (talk) 18:45, 28 June 2020 (UTC)
Copy-paste
[edit]A series of edits on 20 May (diff) appears to be a machine-translated copy of the German version of this article, de:Tana Orma. I believe this represents a copy-paste which raises licensing issues. Furthermore the translated text, as written, is unusable. I have reverted the article to its previous version. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 13:55, 20 May 2011 (UTC)
Title
[edit]It is my feeling that the title should read either the Tana Orma or Tana Orma people. Hence I intend to change this.Jerome KL (talk) 12:27, 30 June 2020 (UTC). I have changed the title and the arguments for this are as follows: the title Orma causes confusion and, therefore, the title should be renamed the Tana Orma. The words Orma and Oromo are the same and to distinguish between them does not make any sense to an Oromo speaker (See for instance, Who are the Tana Orma? The problem of their identification in a wider Oromo framework Schlee, G. 1992 University of Bielefeld, page 3). Although this wikipedia article uses the name Orma and, thus, it refers to the whole Oromo community, in fact its focus is entirely on a sub-group of the Oromo who mainly live on the West Bank of the River Tana in Tana River County in Kenya. When distinguishing them from the other Orma/Oromo speaking people, they are refered to as the ‘Tana Orma’ (Schlee 1992: 4). Hence to prevent misunderstanding and be precise, the correct title of this article is ‘the Tana Orma’. Consequently, everyone will understand at once about which people this article is about.
