[edit]In defense of the entry.
Organlegging (and the organ bank problem) is a recurring concept in the Larry Niven Known Space universe. It is not confined to a single story or novel. Niven gives it high importance, as it is prime example of the effect of a technology can have on society. It is at least as important as Fertility legislation, Invulnerable Starship Hulls, Psychic Luck, and Longevity (via boosterspice); all of which are major themes in the Known Space stories. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.94.96.13 (talk • contribs)
That's not the point. This isn't a Known-Space-apedia, it's a general purpose encyclopedia. You can't have articles that talk only about Niven's take on organlegging and ignore both
- the other fictional instances of the practice and
- the real-life (and horrible) analogue, involuntary organ harvesting.
Thus, the article must be expanded to include these as well. Alba 18:25, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
- Then I would suggest changing the title to something like "Black Market Organ Transplants", with the "organlegging" info used as one specific example of the practice in fiction. (Is it possible to change the title without creating a whole new enry?) I would be happy to add other instances in fiction but I am not familiar with them, except for the film Coma. Whoever reads this please feel free to add them to the article. (Unsigned)
- You certainly can have such an article, for example Kzin if it exists. The hat note to organ theft is sufficient. I also see no problem with the in-universe writing here. Rich Farmbrough, 10:06 15 January 2007 (GMT).
