Merge discussion
[edit]I already merged this, but the redirect was reverted. As you can see from Oregon Route 18, that article can easily cover its bannered route, which is the norm for most bannered highways. – Kacie Jane (talk) 21:51, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- "On a related note, generally speaking, "the roads people" like me lump bannered routes like Oregon Route 18 Business into the parent route – since being bannered makes them somewhat less notable/important than the parent route – which is why I merged that without a formal proposal/discussion/etc. If you want to keep those split as well, that's fine with me. I see they have separate highway numbers/names, so that may be a reason to treat them separately." So what exactly changed, other than it is a new week?
- Reason not to:
- This article was actually the better article prior to the merger, as it was the one properly cited throughout - versus one citation for the main 18 article.
- Merged version has no images of this road and no map nor a list of exist/interchanges. As in we end up with less than before.
- Though it was the old 18, it was also another highway before that. Not sure when it became 18 (or if it actually ever was versus just an old named highway), but that could be tracked down. But as it is, it was after 1920ish as I have a source concerning paving I have not yet added. So, this section at most was 18 from 1920 to 1957, or 37 years. Let's see, since then is 53 years, so I think that's a bigger number.
- This is Main Street for both cities along the route. Which is also a major road between the two, with a different name than plain old 18 (West Valley Highway vs. Salmon River Highway).
- All of this means there is plenty to expand this article, far more than should be covered in the main 18 article.
- So I say, no merge. Same as what I said last week. Aboutmovies (talk) 22:17, 13 May 2010 (UTC)
- I redirected the article back to OR 18 as there is not enough information at the current time and bannered routes are generally covered as a section in their parent route's article. If someone is willing to fully expand the article in the future, it may be split out again. Dough4872 03:15, 25 July 2010 (UTC)
- Interesting reasoning. But if we go with that, you should have done the redirect the other way around. This article was far bettered referenced than then the other prior to the copy and pasting of the info from this one. And by the way, I for one will not being doing any work on either anymore, and don't hold your breathe for anyone else to; and there is quite a bit of info for both, including that 18B was never 18, which is not how the business routes usually were developed.
