Worldwide Orders

[edit]

I think that it would be good if articles about many more orders on all over the world are added on wikipedia. --Walter Humala 22:12, 24 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Garter

[edit]

"By the time of the Renaissance,...Some of modern Europe's highest honours, such as England's Order of the Garter, Denmark's Order of the Elephant and Scotland's Order of the Thistle, were created during that era."

What defintion of the Renaissance are we using here. The garter is 1348 which is before the normal definition of C15. Alci12 16:45, 17 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Order of St. Andrew

[edit]

I've created a new stub at Order of St. Andrew (Barbados) after it was requested, but I'm afraid I know completely zip about the subject. Could someone please check if I've made any glaring conceptual errors? Shimgray | talk | 19:09, 2 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Grade vs. Class

[edit]

What is the difference between medal grades and medal classes? They mean the same thing but it seems to me like grade is the more correct term. Any experts out there? JRWalko 03:31, 24 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Split?

[edit]

Is it perhaps time to split the contents into Order and Order of merit or something similar? Chicbyaccident (talk) 10:24, 16 October 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Terminology

[edit]

There is currently bit of a split of different ways of naming the same thing. We have chivalric order, dynastic order of knighthood and order of merit. For consistency, would it a good thing to keep order of merit but change the others: chivalric order into order of chivalry (as per International Commission on Orders of Chivalry and more), and thus dynastic order of knighthood into dynastic order of chivalry? Furthermore, this would arguably comply better with WP:Precise, since knighthood does have overlapping yet slightly differing variant connotations. I have opened a move requests on the topic on the relevant talk pages mentioned. Chicbyaccident (talk) 12:02, 16 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]

State Order

[edit]

The "State Orders" section consists solely of a link to the State order article, which redirects back to Order (distinction). It's a useless link that does nothing. 74.39.142.29 (talk) 02:33, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Grammar - an order is still an order

[edit]

The article is incorrect in its use and understanding of grammar, confusing between or conflating concepts and words: order, award, medal, membership.

Order is still a group of people.

An order of merit is the group of people who are given membership to it for some merit.

One is awarded membership in an order (due to some meritorious action or whatever) and one probably receives a medal or star or physical object representing one’s membership. 178.197.229.68 (talk) 07:10, 10 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
