Status?

[edit]

Does anyone know what the current status of the project is? When is the park supposed to be completed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cousert (talkcontribs) 22:25, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

This article has been sabotaged with biased views. Motion to REMOVE the article —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mrjpb104 (talkcontribs) 20:25, 5 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The park is plagued with problems. Irvine should sell it to Disney.173.58.53.212 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 08:30, 31 January 2011 (UTC).[reply]

Monitoring of this site needs to be done. The article is being used for political purposes. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.38.22.231 (talk) 15:17, 5 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Major cleanup

[edit]

I'm performing some serious cleanup of this article along with a copy edit on behalf of the Guild of Copy Editors. One thing in particular I plan to address is converting the lists of attractions into something more descriptive. I'd like to add some images as well, if I can find them.

I also think there is more emphasis than necessary on the political aspects of the park planning, so I may reduce this information once I've fleshed out the attraction section. Feel free to discuss here & add your thoughts! 𝕘wendy |   14:39, 7 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

I agree this needs cleanup. I have lived in the area since the early 1990s (and grew up in the county), so the history is familiar.

Less could be said about the old proposal to convert the base into a civilian airport. Short version is it was proposed, and it failed. (Perhaps someone might want to write an article on the subject. Perhaps somewhere there is a good article.) The location never made sense as a major airport, as the proposal had airliners taking off in a direction that was uphill, downwind, and towards the foothills. For safety, pilots are taught to takeoff downhill, upwind, and away from obstructions (in case of loss of power) - and pilots always have the last word in choosing a runway. The site never made sense as an airport, so you can assume other motivations.

I also agree that less could be said about the recent political aspect. Perhaps just small mention that it exists, and a link or two? pbannister (talk) 17:12, 6 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

The political aspects of the Park are of great interest to the people who live in Orange County (an urban area significantly larger than Chicago) and might be of interest to others who want to read the history of the park. I'm not sure what the motivation is to remove them from the article. There really is not much of anything at the park, yet, that is of great interest to anyone who does not actually live near the park. It's the sort of place that you'll drive across town to for a picnic, but I don't think many tourists put it on their "things to see" list when they come to Orange County. Better main image

[edit]

The main image was taken in 1993. That seems a bit outdated. If anyone can provide a more up-to-date image, that would be great. CanO27sprite (talk) 01:33, 16 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
