Feedback
[edit]FYI, there is already a Wikipedia B-class article on USS_Nautilus_(SSN-571) with a section on Operation Sunshine. Michelev (talk) 17:32, 18 March 2014 (UTC)
Feedback on 2nd draft
[edit]- It's not clear how Vanguard is related to Operation Sunshine - needs clarifying or elaborating here.
- Many inline citations are not coded yet, and References section needs cleaning up.
- Some of the writing style is not strictly encyclopedic (extraordinary, etc.). Either provide evidence for claims like "extraordinary" or revise to be more neutral.
- If this will be proposed as a new article, the title will need a parenthetical clarification to distinguish from the current Operation Sunshine article.

Missing Inaccurate Information
[edit]- The first polar excursion in 1957 was not part of Operation Sunshine, it was simply an arctic cruse prior to NATO operation where the Nautilus was given leeway to make a run for the Pole.
- There were two attempts in 1958 for the crossing of the Arctic. Attempt one left Washington and resulted in the Nautilus heading back to Hawaii for R&R when it was realized the ice was too dangerous, attempt 2 (called Operation Sunshine II was the successful one from Hawaii.
- No real information one how the Operation came about, it's motives and political ramifications. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.19.252.154 (talk) 18:37, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
There is nothing in this article that isn’t also contained in the article, USS Nautilus (SSN-571). In fact, the “Sunshine” section in that article probably covers the material better. Therefore, I would like to propose replacing the contents of this article with a redirect as follows:
#REDIRECT USS Nautilus (SSN-571)#Operation Sunshine – under the North Pole
Does that require that this article first be proposed for deletion at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion, or discussed as a proposed merger? Alternatively, would WP:BOLD cover such an action unilaterally performed (i.e., just replace the contents with a redirect)? Thanks! — SpikeToronto 08:31, 29 April 2021 (UTC)
