Baltic Fleet
If I am a near-idiot for correcting this to Baltic Fleet (Soviet Union), then you can be the genius for creating articles for the Baltic Fleets of Germany, Poland, Sweden and Finland, never mind those of the Hanseatic League.--mrg3105mrg3105 If you're not taking any flack, you're not over the target. 11:47, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- The point was you destroyed a link pointing to the correct article. If you had changed the name of the Soviet/Russian fleet article at the same time, it would have been more understandable. As it was, it left me wondering what you were trying to do.
- Disambiguation is only preemptively necessary if there are going to be other article at that name, and I have never seen any reference to formations of any of the navies you mention actually called, for example, 'Kriegsmarine Balticflotte'. Buckshot06 (talk) 23:11, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
- There is no correct article for the Soviet Baltic Fleet that I have seen. The one on the Baltic Fleet can be regarded as no more then a 'parent' article to a range of articles from the Imperial Russian Baltic Fleet (sail), to Imperial Russian Baltic Fleet (First World War), etc.
- You know full well that 'Kriegsmarine Balticflotte' can't be used for en-Wiki article name. In case you have not realised it, Wikipedia is an open source, source. There are no limits to the degree of detail it can reach eventually. Every defined item of data that has the potential for an article is eventually going to become one. My preemption is simple foresight. Eventually someone is going to document all the navies of the Baltic sea, their organisations, the ships, the captains of the vessels, the bases and ports, etc. I for one intend to document Second World War naval operations in the Baltic sea, so there is definitely going to be a Red Banner Baltic Fleet article and one for Baltic Fleet (Germany).--mrg3105mrg3105 If you're not taking any flack, you're not over the target. 00:24, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe I'm not being clear. My argument is the Kreigsmarine never had a 'Baltic Fleet'. They may have had a Baltic Submarine Training Force, they may have had a Baltic Squadron, they may have had a Baltic Destroyer Flotilla, they may have had a 18th Destroyer Flotilla in the Baltic, but they never had something called 'Baltic Fleet'. Not that I've heard of. Given that Sweden and Finland's entire navies were in the Baltic a military-naval formation with the name 'Baltic Fleet' for hem seems unlikely as well. - I'm not an expert on Kriegsmarine, but see here [1] for Kriegsmarine --mrg3105mrg3105 If you're not taking any flack, you're not over the target. 03:27, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- ->I'm going to make some remarks on the Baltic Fleet page. This discussion has very little to do with 'Spark' Buckshot06 (talk) 03:59, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
