Thanks for cleaning up after me, Gerda! Is it ever actually called the "offenes Grab" in German? I only translated the name as "open" rather than "opened" because the latter sounded slightly odd to me in English. Furius (talk) 21:13, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
"open" is "offen", "opened" is "geöffnet", - I have no idea how it would be called in English, but the slight difference in meaning should show. If it has no name in English, I would use the German ;) --Gerda Arendt (talk) 21:33, 17 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
So it is as I thought. I don't think "opened" in English is normally used as an adjective or adjectival participal, but only as a periphrastic (I'd say "the door was opened" and "the open door" but not "the opened door"). Maybe this is just me.
I do like the idea of just keeping the name in German but I hesitate a little because I worry that it makes the most interesting fact about the monument less accessible to English readers. Maybe that's just me, too? Maybe I should have spent the time I wasted worrying about this translating another article... :-/ Furius (talk) 00:43, 18 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]
