Talk:Olympics
Creation
[edit]When a new user types in "Olympics" into the search bar, they would have been sent to Olympic Games, but why? Having a mini-portal of sorts allows for new users to easily navigate through various Olympics-related categories, templates, and pages. Please feel free to edit the page or give me and other users suggestions. Thanks. → J@red 14:48, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
- Hahaha, wow, this is some trippy shit. :D -Silence 20:40, 26 April 2006 (UTC)

- I am totally sorry, I have to agree with Silence (though, choice of words would be different). I mean, this is allowed, right? Colonel Marksman 01:39, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- Since there is at least one unrelated use of the term "Olympics", I've turned it into a standard disambig page. -- Jonel | Speak 03:04, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- Well, I guess it's fine with me, but I thought it'd be nice to have a little series of links to other pages. Olympics is so ambiguous, and broad that it could literally mean anything. You only have one link on your recently created dab. page that goes to a modern Olympics pages. There are atleast 10 pages that someone could be trying to find by searching "Olympipcs". I think maybe if there could be a way to incorportate these other ones in in the fashion that I had them, that'd be nice. → J@red 19:15, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- If people are looking for information on the modern Olympics and go to the page "Olympics", they're probably looking for general information on the Olympic games, not the Wikipedia WikiProject Sports Olympics. The Olympic Games page has prominent links to the Summer Olympic Games and Winter Olympic Games, in case anyone is looking for season-specifics. Those two pages, along with all the other pages on the modern Olympics, can be found through the main Olympic Games page. -- Jonel | Speak 22:09, 9 May 2006 (UTC)
- OK. I guess that's fine. → J@red 22:58, 9 May 2006 (UTC)

Redirect to Olympic Games
[edit]This should redirect to Olympic Games. That's how it was for 4 years, and it was just fine that way. Olympic Games already has a link to the ancient competition at the top anyway. Alcuin 04:08, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- I'm fine with that as it is almost certainly the most common intended target, though there would have to be a disambig link to the mountains at the top of Olympic Games then. -- Jonel | Speak 15:21, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
- Why is there a disambiguation here when I type in Olympics? Not required, surely. jkm 05:36, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
- But everyyone calls it "the olympics"???

I would like to suggest replacing the entire content of Olympics with:
#REDIRECT [[Olympic Games]] {{R from alternative name}}
