Bogayev, Bogaev, Bogaiev

[edit]

It's hard to know which spelling to make the "official" spelling for this article, but Bogayev is the one that seems to be most often used by John Freedman, who is in turn the most prevalent author of English-language coverage of Bogayev's writing. So that's what I ran with. This follows the BGN/PCGN Romanization of Russian; many other systems would just say Bogaev. Since WP is in the business of reflecting usage rather than dictating it, I went with what appeared to be most prevalent. In time we may change our minds. The only place I've seen Bogaiev was in a Wikipedia article, but I presume they got it from some place, so I added a redirect. I would welcome the input of a Russian specialist on this one. The guideline for romanization of Russian in Wikipedia is WP:RUS. It states that when one is in doubt as to which variant is prevalent, the one produced by the default provisions of WP:RUS should be used. Since that default is "Bogayev", your choice of spelling was correct. Hope this helps.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 14:36, June 16, 2009 (UTC)
