Havlabar is the Armenian district in Tbilisi. Aptak (talk) 19:03, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- It's a Georgian district according to Hewsen with a predominantly Armenian population. (Not sure why it's called the "Georgian district".) Most of the Armenian churches are west of the Kura river. (The official Armenian district is there, on the west bank.) Serouj (talk) 20:02, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Folks, you are confusing the modern administrative district of Old Tbilisi - a subject of this article - with the 19th-century city. An "ethnic" subdivision like this is no more used in Tbilisi and there are no "official" Armenian, Georgian, and Persian districts. --KoberTalk 20:37, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Regarding Avlabari, it was divided by the city wall into two parts: Shida Avlabari ("Inner") and Gare Avlabari ("Outer"). Inner quarter accomodated a garrison detachment, while Outer one was chiefly Armenian with the well-known Khojavank area of Armenian melik whom the Georgian kings granted this territory in the 17th century. In the 19th century the wall was demolished and the district was tentatively divided into Armenian and Georgian quarters. --KoberTalk 20:44, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
- Ok. Can we accommodate this nuance in the text then? Aptak (talk) 00:56, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
