Is this list redundant?

[edit]

Goodreg3, I think you were very right to split this out from the main Eton College article! I am now concerned, though, that this list overlaps with the scope of List of Old Etonians born before the 18th century, List of Old Etonians born in the 18th century, List of Old Etonians born in the 19th century, and List of Old Etonians born in the 20th century. My guess is that the value of this list is that it distills down some of the most famous examples, which made sense within the article but seems less justified as a standalone list. Should this list instead be merged with those chronological alumni lists? ~ L 🌸 (talk) 01:13, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

I have no objections to the merge of the chronological lists. I did, however, feel that it was far too long and unjustifiable on the Eton College article adding excessive length and was best split. But yes, I have no objections to it being added in the associated chronological alumni lists! Goodreg3 (talk) 22:25, 27 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
Upon checking the Category:People educated at Eton College, it seems to me that all the lists named here have a large issue, i.e., no criteria for inclusion. If having an article in Wikipedia is enough for an Etonian to get onto the list, then the lists should be much longer. IMHO the approach taken by our colleagues for the Oxonians makes sense: a text with some names in the article, a list of lists List of University of Oxford people (this page can be converted into such one for the Etonians) and the sublists that are separated by the source of fame (like profession), not the year of birth. It would be relatively easy to find the WP:RS for such professional lists. That said, I would wait for User:Somebody "Notme" Else to perform the surgery.
