Main differences between K18 and Olaplex:
- K18 restores keratin chains, and Olaplex restores disulfide bonds in the hair, in the very structure of the hair.
Keratin chains are the structural component of hair (think vertical legs/sides of a ladder) and disulfide bonds (think horizontal rungs of a ladder) are the chemical bonds that hold the keratin chains together. Instead of providing a temporary repair and restoring one type of bond, as Olaplex does with disulfide bonds, K18 mimics the molecular makeup of keratin chains along the length and width of your hair fiber to improve strength and elasticity.
The most important ingredient of K18 is K18 PEPTIDE (sh-Oligopeptide-78), and Olaplex's key ingredient is Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate.
Olaplex is a pre-shampoo treatment and K18 is a post-shampoo treatment.
K18 needs at least 4 minutes to run. Olaplex NO3 needs at least 10 minutes to work on the hair.[1] — Preceding unsigned comment added by 95.180.62.194 (talk) 13:36, 12 September 2023 (UTC)
Info box
[edit]Should the infobox be a brand info box instead of a product infobox since Olaplex is a company not just one product? Manetamer (talk) 01:03, 15 September 2023 (UTC)
Abusive reverts
[edit]I read about this company. It clearly got shot down by 'obscure' forces. Don't care, but it feels weird when the same forces are in play here on Wikipedia. The following edits I recently made were reverted with the comment "revert grossly promotional edits". Below is the content I added, I let you be the judge.
- Kim Kardashian recommended the product to address Platinumgate after hair bleaching https://www.cosmopolitan.com/uk/beauty-hair/hair/a37378/olaplex-repair-damaged-hair/ : Valid source, valid info because first time the brand gets some form of endorsement, short sentence, not promotional.
- It was also advertised by hair colorists Guy Tang and Tracey Cunningham on social networks. In its launch days, Olaplex grew at a pace of 1,000 new hair salons adopting the product every day. Many short-lived competitors appeared to piggy-back on Olaplex's wave of instant success https://wwd.com/feature/olaplex-targets-perm-curl-service-10417301/ : Valid source, valid info because it explains how the brand got famous in hair salons. The numbers are optional but the source clearly underlines that Olaplex' growth was never seen before in this sector, so adding some info about that is not promotional, just factual.
- Christal was working on developing a UV silicone for hair damage. He met with Craig Hawker and Eric Pressly, who gave him "a 100 millimeters of a goldish liquid that looked like Miller beer". He asked Tracey Cunningham, hair stylist for the stars, to test it, and received excellent feedback. So they started to produce 1 liter of Olaplex every day for Cunningham's Mêche Salon https://www.thecut.com/2015/07/what-makes-kim-kardashians-hair-look-so-good.html : Like it or hate it, this is just the genesis story according to the source, and there is no reason to remove this.
With all the lawsuits against the company, I understand how my edits may grind some gears, but nothing was promotional in my edits, I just found and added interesting facts about the company, enabling readers to understand how it skyrocketed instantly, and crashed also instantly and just as hard (that's the story of this brand). It's all source-based. Rephrasing may be justified, but not removing all of that sourced info in bulk. That is an abusive move and not compliant with Wikipedia's guidelines. - I always find it fascinating when someone with 100-odd edits takes it on themselves to deliver lectures on Wikipedia guidelines and policies. AndyTheGrump (talk) 17:22, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
