[edit]Should be possible to expand this quite a bit, several stories on The Guardian website from when he was killed http://browse.guardian.co.uk/search?search=olaf+schmid&sitesearch-radio=guardian I'm sure one of the major dailies did a full obit too. - ah http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/obituaries/military-obituaries/army-obituaries/6539171/Staff-Sergeant-Olaf-Schmid.html lots more hits on The Telegraph site now too. David Underdown (talk) 17:30, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
- I'm reading the Times obit at the moment. Woody (talk) 17:30, 18 March 2010 (UTC)
- I notice the Times and Telegraph contradict each other on teh nationality of his father, one saying Swiss, the other Swedish. David Underdown (talk) 14:01, 19 March 2010 (UTC)
- "Hans-Joerg" would be a very uncommon name in Sweden. It fits perfectly for a man from a German-speaking part of Switzerland, though. --Kristian 20:07, 8 September 2010 (UTC)
- Schmid is also a relatively common name in Southern Germany (Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg), so another indicator that the father is at least of Swiss ancestry.--91.6.145.136 (talk) 20:38, 7 November 2011 (UTC)
