[edit]The table doesn't make it clear which pronunciations apply to which transcriptions in which positions and vice versa. And a similar issue occurs further down in the table as well. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.139.81.0 (talk) 23:52, 11 June 2012 (UTC)
Katakana
[edit]I think it's a really bad idea to show the hiragana transliteration of the Ryukyu University system in the table and not the actual katakana-based Ryukyu University system. I recognize that it's nice to be able to compare the systems as directly as possible, but the way it's currently presented we have a list of made-up character equivalences that are not the Ryukyu University system, next to a label saying "Ryukyu Univ." This is no more or less than false information. The Japanese-language Wikipedia page on this subject does the same thing, but readers of Japanese can be reasonably expected to be able to convert between hiragana and katakana in their heads without getting confused, much as English readers might be able to understand that a line in a table is presented in all caps for some reason but represents information that would actually be written in lower case. Here on English-language Wikipedia, the current presentation is extremely confusing to the large majority of users who don't read kana fluently or at all. They can see at a glance that the letters in Wikipedia's table don't look anything like the letters on the Ryukyu University Web page we link to.
My suggestion: the table entries should show the actual Ryukyu University transcriptions, which are in katakana, followed by the hiragana equivalents in parentheses to make comparisons easier. For instance, an entry might read "ヲゥ (をぅ)". I'm willing to edit it to do this, but it'll require rewriting much of the table to deal with all the multi-row cells, so I'd like to seek comment here first and make sure other editors will be okay with it. 130.179.29.61 (talk) 16:29, 5 November 2012 (UTC)
