Okanagan Falls Provincial Park → Sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ Provincial Park – In 2015, the park was renamed to reflect the traditional place name for the area Extemporalist (talk) 10:42, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). Anthony Appleyard (talk) 11:34, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- @Extemporalist: I suspect that this better wait until we find how many visitors learn how to pronounce and spell "sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ" and use it as their usual name for the place. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 11:34, 5 May 2017 (UTC)
- Comment I am inclined to agree with Anthony Appleyard. (Most) keyboards don't even have those keys on it that I know of and the renaming (of parks in general, not article) is something I have found to be contested. Usual place name is the way to go (unless people suddenly start searching for sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ a lot more). --TheSandDoctor (talk) 01:05, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
- At least, a redirect from the nearest typable form "sxwexwnikw" would be needed. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 04:39, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose I have a fairly recent operating system, and I can't even tell if the characters are rendering correctly. This would be bad for the reader. Redirect if need be. TonyBallioni (talk) 15:20, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
- strong oppose untypable, unpronounceable. WP:COMMONNAME, and a whole host of other essays/policies say no. -- Aunva6talk - contribs 18:32, 13 May 2017 (UTC)
- Noooooo. What is "sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ"? If we're going to use this we need to translate it. Does "sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ" mean "Okanagan Falls" in Osoyoos? Or something else? We have few if any articles named "长江三角洲" and so forth, let's not make an exception here, even if is the common name (which I doubt, although it may become someday). The legal name is not very important. Herostratus (talk) 03:32, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
- Oppose per WP:OFFICIALNAMES and WP:UE. BTW, the pronunciation of Sx̌ʷəx̌ʷnitkʷ can be found here. — AjaxSmack 21:32, 15 May 2017 (UTC)
