Derivation of the name
[edit]It seems likely that the name Oise derives from the same root as the English rivers named Ouse, see Ouse (disambiguation). The River Great Ouse article says:
- "The name Ouse is from the Celtic or pre-Celtic *Udso-s, and probably means simply "water" or slow flowing river."
