Sex determination using odontodes
[edit]I added a link showing that there is indeed a difference in odontode growth between sexes in one case. It is my understanding that is is common in the family Loricariidae (suckermouth catfish) - not sure outside that. In addition it seems that male odontodes are shed after reproduction and growback larger after - there are web links to this info. but I cannot verify it myself. Anyway this is probably too trivial for this article (or the wrong article) I think the link gives a reasonable example of the differences - in general the difference (in sexual mature specimens) is easily visible to the naked eye, and in some cases is quite marked.
