Could use even more references and information, but certainly a B.

The clip of Odetta in No Direction Home
[edit]In the Odetta clip from Martin Scorcese's documentary film, what song is she singing & what programme is it from (and when)? I guess it's one of the TV programmes in the Filmography, but if anyone know you can add it into "recent years" in the biography. Responsible? 12:51, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
Links
[edit]There seem to be a number of links to sites that basically just sell stuff (e.g. Amazon, CDUniverse). Unless someone can explain in the next day or two why these are here, I plan to remove them. - Jmabel | Talk 08:24, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
Last name
[edit]Does Odetta have a last name? Chimeric Glider (talk) 23:44, 2 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, but what one she uses legally now, I don't know. Look at the info box to see 3 last names she has used. Oddly enough, I knew her former husband, Daniel Gordon, who I believe is now deceased. When Mr. Gordon's current wife (also now deceased) mentioned he had once been married to Odetta, I wasn't sure I believed her until I found references to them as a couple and him as her manager.LiPollis (talk) 07:20, 3 May 2008 (UTC)
I've modified the listing of Odetta's name to reflect how those vocal artists who choose to go by one-name monikers, that being "XXX (born/died), known as XXX XXX XXX." Please see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Madonna_(entertainer) for an example. 12:08, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Several sources give her name as Odetta Felious. Could this have been another husband?
Discography
[edit]I'm going to pull her discography out to a separate page. It is huge. It deserves it and needs more for the Wiki album project. Thanks.Airproofing (talk) 18:53, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
- Maybe do the same with Film/TV??? Airproofing (talk) 19:01, 10 July 2008 (UTC)
A Great Lady
[edit]I am deeply saddened by the passing of a great lady, a great soul, an inspiration and a voice of Angels and Gods...Modernist (talk) 14:45, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
Tributes
[edit]- Anton Newcombe of The Brian Jonestown Massacre was quoted saying he loves Odetta. "This is the first time I've been bummed when someone died in a while."
- Let's not lose some perspective here; sure she was great and reliably sourced comments will undoubtedly find their place here. However, we also have to take account of WP:NOTMEMORIAL. And "bummed" has a completely different meaning in UK English, as does "pissed". Let's be careful, please. --Rodhullandemu 22:22, 3 December 2008 (UTC)
- I don't know if this is the right place to say this, but:
I don't know if by "Janis Joplin" in "Associated Acts", the article means Janis Ian? The article does mention Janis Ian regarding the 2007 Tribute concert, which is correct. But don't know if "Associated Acts" in the top right section should include "Janis Ian"? (As, Odetta in 1975 did a wonderful performance on the song "Hymn" by Janis Ian, on Ian's album "Aftertones".) Maybe or maybe not in LIEU of Janis Joplin? (Or maybe both ladies?) Thanks. 209.51.184.13 (talk) 17:18, 23 January 2012 (UTC) 209.51.184.11 (talk) 16:56, 25 January 2012 (UTC)David Nielsen / summerhaven1@mac.com (I slightly reworded this 25 Jan.]
Stephen Kings - The Dark Tower
[edit]One of the main characters in Stephen Kings novel "The Dark Tower" is called Odetta Homes. Maybe this should be added? 217.94.210.150 (talk) 06:04, 5 December 2008 (UTC)
- I think they share more than a name, Odetta in Kings novel was also an activist in her time, I think the character was largely based on the real Odetta. 80.189.249.13 (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 15:18, 2 February 2010 (UTC).
Worldwide tours
[edit]Maybe not for the article, but Odetta was active in many countries in the early 60's - we [self and wife] saw her in Nigeria in 1963, a memorable experience. --Dumarest (talk) 16:08, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

The Dark Tower
[edit]Is it worth mentioning her role in the Stephen King series The Dark Tower? 2600:1700:2174:C150:76:13C9:2EF9:F25D (talk) 10:29, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
Iverson Minter / Louisiana Red
[edit]Cite: She was married twice, first to Dan Gordon and then, after their divorce, to Iverson Minter. Her second marriage also ended in divorce. She was also engaged (but not married) to Garry Shead. The blues singer-guitarist Louisiana Red was a former companion of hers.
Comment: Louisianna Red is the stage name of Iverson Minter! "They" are the same person!
