Macintosh bias: FourCC should be un-merged
[edit]FourCC and OSType are not the same thing, as OSType does not exist on non-Macintosh platforms, and FourCC is encoded into AVI files in a different place than OSType. Merging FourCC with this was a mistake. – Andyluciano 19:11, 12 February 2006 (UTC)
I agree. I made a new article for FourCC. – Mcoder 14:20, 26 February 2006 (UTC)
- If they need separate articles, then they are different enough that the first sentence of this article should not claim they are synonyms. Fixed. --68.0.124.33 (talk) 00:20, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
Place for OSType data?
[edit]Where is OSType data stored? As an entry in the file system? Directly in the file, for example the first four bytes? --80.139.14.165 (talk) 19:29, 20 November 2009 (UTC)
- Does the article now answer your question?
- If not, please edit the article to make it more clear:
- The two pieces of OSType data that apply to the file as a whole are stored in an entry in the file system, separate from the data fork or resource fork of the file.
- The OSType data that applies to each particular resource are stored directly in the resource fork of the file with that resource.
