Macintosh bias: FourCC should be un-merged

[edit]

FourCC and OSType are not the same thing, as OSType does not exist on non-Macintosh platforms, and FourCC is encoded into AVI files in a different place than OSType. Merging FourCC with this was a mistake. – Andyluciano 19:11, 12 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree. I made a new article for FourCC. – Mcoder 14:20, 26 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

If they need separate articles, then they are different enough that the first sentence of this article should not claim they are synonyms. Fixed. --68.0.124.33 (talk) 00:20, 7 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Place for OSType data?

[edit]

Where is OSType data stored? As an entry in the file system? Directly in the file, for example the first four bytes? --80.139.14.165 (talk) 19:29, 20 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Does the article now answer your question?
If not, please edit the article to make it more clear:
The two pieces of OSType data that apply to the file as a whole are stored in an entry in the file system, separate from the data fork or resource fork of the file.
The OSType data that applies to each particular resource are stored directly in the resource fork of the file with that resource.
