OPEL was?
[edit]We haven't heard anything to say OPEL was a telecommunications operator therefor the claim is unsourced since OPEL hasn't said it will fold, So that would mean it's still a telecommunications operator just that it has lost the Government funding. PS: This isn't my POV. -- Bidgee (talk) 12:23, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
- Both the parent companies of the joint venture parnters, that is Futuris (which owns Elders) and SingTel (which owns Optus) have advised via announcements to the Australian Securities Exchange that they are writing off what they have spent on the project. See SingTel Release and Futuris Release, assuming they don't make any financial recoveries from the government over the cancellation. The write offs indicate that the project will not go ahead, and the SingTel release uses past tense when it refers to "other commercial arrangements that Optus would have had with OPEL". The indication of write-offs are sourced from the joint venture partners themselves, so there's no doubt here. Unless they come out with further releases to the contrary, they have told the market that it's over.
- The general media release Optus came out with later in the day of the announcement underlines it again by saying "The OPEL access network, which was to be wholesaled to other telcos and internet service providers, will now not be built.". -- Rob.au (talk) 10:44, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
