OMD → OMD (disambiguation) – Seems a WP:UCS move, since the popular band has two official monikers in "Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark" and "OMD", being billed as the latter on almost all of their releases since 1983. This move would allow for the OMD page to be redirected to Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (I'd suggest that some 99% of people punching in the letters "OMD" are looking for the 40 million-selling chart group), with disambiguation notes added at the top of the article, in the style of Electric Light Orchestra (who are in an identical situation with their acronym, ELO). Thanks. Paulie302 (talk) 22:12, 13 September 2024 (UTC) This is a contested technical request (permalink). 162 etc. (talk) 18:23, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- @Paulie302 Not really a common sense move. To me, as someone who works in the fringe of media marketing, OMD is OMD Worldwide. – robertsky (talk) 10:06, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- With all due respect, I still contend that it is. The agency is "OMD Worldwide", whereas the band is "OMD". And the band currently get some 20 times the readership that the agency does. Paulie302 (talk) 13:54, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- The agency's name is a natural disambiguation. In various sources, they have been reported as simply OMD as well(eg, [1], [2]), and this is with just a search with simply "OMD" as the keyword. There are are also local news which would report moves or campaigns by the local offices as "OMD <country>", but generally they are all considered as the same entity, similarly to how one would consider the local offices of any of the Big Four accounting firms/law partnerships to be the same entities despite them being legally distinct of each other. – robertsky (talk) 18:31, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- It's true that a Google search for "OMD" turns up a few hits relating to the agency's goings-on, but the band dominates the results (and, again, have the far more-read article here on Wikipedia). On top of this, the band were using the OMD name long before the agency was created. They would appear to be the primary topic. Paulie302 (talk) 19:32, 15 September 2024 (UTC)
- What dominates in a Google Search result is pretty much subjective and personal given that Google does give biased search results. See also WP:HITS. I have no qualms in supporting a primary redirect setup or primary topics takeover, provided that the primary topics be that are being compared are of the same categorisation (e.g. Our Song where I argued for the move), but these are two different subject matters here, with the band being referred to by more of their long form name than the acronym (I don't see a consistency when I search both forms) and an unrelated but prominent company in their field bring referred to by the acronym consistently. I think we have said enough, and I will disengage unless required. – robertsky (talk) 23:43, 15 September 2024 (UTC)

- Oppose per the primary topic ambiguity established by the conversation between the nominator and the sole other participant. Steel1943 (talk) 21:26, 20 September 2024 (UTC)
- Oppose. Even while watching a video of theirs on YouTube, that I've searched for multiple times, about a third of my personalised google results are for the media agency that I don't think I've ever searched for. To me this clearly indicates that there is not a primary topic here. Thryduulf (talk) 22:16, 22 September 2024 (UTC)
