Mess

[edit]

This article needs a serious overhaul, it lacks sources, parts even read like a tourist pamphlet. Northern Star (talk) 20:22, 25 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Ó Catháin

[edit]

This article should really be under Ó Catháin as O'Cahan is just one of many anglicisations, as even the first sentence of this article makes clear. 109.76.175.178 (talk) 10:09, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Ó Catháin exits as an article, but it seems to cover several families of the same name. I suppose all of them could Anglicise their names today as O'Cahan. Perhaps this article could be merged into that one. I don't know anything about the different families though.--Brianann MacAmhlaidh (talk) 10:39, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Merge - will also help beef up the Ó Catháin article. Mabuska (talk) 10:46, 27 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Mullin or Mullan sept

[edit]

@The Banner see Ó MAOLÁIN (Woulfe doesn't record the spelling 'Mullin' as an anglicized form). Mullin can also be an English name; 'Mullen' sometimes a shortened form of a Dutch name, whereas 'Mullan' is exclusively Irish/relating to this sept. *By 'more common spelling' I meant that the spelling is more commonly derived from the sept, not that more people nowadays have the surname. It's pretty trivial so I won't bother to contest your rash revert, but just thought I'd offer you some 'evidence'... Gaelicbow (talk) 19:48, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, that 100 year old work does not back up your claim that "Mullan" is the correct name of this cadet branch. Sorry. The Banner talk 21:32, 23 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
