Inaccuricies of Airport Data
[edit]I've found some diverging information about this airport, including an alternative name and also a different ICAO code, which I won't add because the source isn't too trustworthy and many sources confirm the current ICAO code. The airport data is at least a little inaccurate. Since the only source cited doesn't contain this kind of information, I will replace the old information with the one given by my sources.

- Infobox
- Wikilink Norway.
- History
- There is no history between 1928 and 1946, which includes World War II. What kind of activity was there during the war? According to the Svalbard article, in 1941 Norway mostly evacuated the island group and the Germans occupied it for a few years.
- There was nothing aviation-related that took place in Ny-Ålesund during those years. During WWII, there was no notable German activity in Ny-Ålesund, although it is correct that the settlement was evacuated. I've added a few lines on the main development of the town to add some context. Arsenikk (talk) 13:34, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- "Financing of the airport was in part to be secured through a Hilton hotel" This is very interesting. Can you provide more details?
- The sources do not provide any more details than that Hilton planned to build a hotel if the airport was completed. Arsenikk (talk) 13:34, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- Unitalicize "Aviation Act."
- "Ski- og Sjøfly" Is this name supposed to have a space after the hyphen?
- This is correct (Norwegian uses much more compound words than English, resulting in the need for hyphens in odd places.) Arsenikk (talk) 13:34, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- "the air strip was kept operations" It looks like there is a missing word here.
- Airlines and destinations
- I would change "services" to "flights." In the first sentence, make "services" singular because it is being used in the general sense.
- "ad-hoc" should not have a hyphen
- I would make it clear that connections to Tromso are made through Longyear.
- Are there ever situations when there are flights to places other than Longyear?
- No. All flights off the archipelago must go via Longyear because of immigration control, and the third and final fixed-wing airport on Svalbard, Svea Airport, it company-owned and not open for public flights. Arsenikk (talk) 13:34, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- Is the table standard in all airport articles? It looks silly with just one airline and one destination, so I would remove it.
- This is standard on all airport articles. I agree that it looks silly on its own, so I have removed it. Arsenikk (talk) 13:34, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- References
- Why is there a wikilink for Rolf Tamnes but not for the other authors?
- Tamnes is notable, in part as having been a high-ranking public servant and important academic in analyzing Norwegian foreign policy (Norwegian Wikipedia article), the others I do not believe are. Arsenikk (talk) 13:34, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
- Because there is one author per work, you do not need to include a year with each citation.
I will place this review on hold for you to address my comments. I plan to do a copyedit as well before passing the article. VC 04:15, 26 May 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you for taking the time to review the article. Please excuse the delay in answering, but I spent the long weekend on a diving trip without Internet access. Arsenikk (talk) 13:34, 29 May 2012 (UTC)
