Edits

Just made a few minor edits to the background section. The article is looking great. Additions to Article

Just reading over the information present and I thought of something that seems to be missing that could be a good point for you editors of the article: Why were the British implementing this system of treaties with the Native North Americans and what were they looking to gain in the long-term?

Template

Is there any way we could have the template work so that you could write {{Numbered Treaties|1}} and it would show the nations from Treaty 1? Or even, {{Numbered Treaties|8|BC}} and it would show Treaty 8 nations in BC? How complicated would that be? - TheMightyQuill (talk) 19:07, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

I started... Treaties 1-4 I'll try to finish soon. - TheMightyQuill (talk) 21:43, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
I got as far as I can go... there's a limit of 20 groups. I should be able to throw it to another template, but I can't figure out how. Treaty 9 nations look a little funny, but I'll leave it for now. - TheMightyQuill (talk) 20:56, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

This page needs more sources

There was no "submit or starve" policy. This page lacks Native Canadian information. I am looking into getting these pages reviewed

"overseen by the Government of Canada"

I'm wondering about this phrase. Does this mean that the various First Nations have ceded their sovereignty to this extent? I would have thought that the two signatories would have responsibility for their own constituents, or a third party would be responsible. --Richardson mcphillips (talk) 19:45, 13 May 2013 (UTC)

Reworking Numbered Treaties

As a group participating in the course assignment we would like to modify the Wikipedia article titled “Numbered Treaties in Canada” by restructuring the layout of the article, adding additional content in regards to the negotiations and signings of the treaties, and removing some of the existing information such as the current further reading section to assure it is concise.

Below you will find an overview of our intended edits and how it will be structured. Please note that they are subject to change and additional detail.

Within the section titled history we will be dividing it into 4 sections. An explanation of Pre-Treaty life in the area. The Expansion West by the Canadian Government. The creation of the number treaties. Creating smaller sub sections to discuss 1-7 and then 8-11 due to the time gap between them. Lastly a comprehensive table of the Treaties including a brief summary, key players, date, maps

Under the title Negotiations & Signings we will look at different aspects surrounding the events including Preparing for the Treaty, language barriers, signing procedures and differences and etc

Under Interpretations we will explain how the two parties saw the agreements made and the implementations of these treaties

Finally their will be some a large revisal of the "Modern Legal Interpretation" section. The issues that will be placed under the this section will focus more carefully on those in Numbered Treaty areas.

We believe that the restructuring, and modifications made to this article will improve its ability to offer encyclopedic information to those interested in the Numbered Treaties in a well-rounded manner. While we are working on these changes, we would appreciate any feedback or other suggestions to further improve our own work. Changing up the Info Box and List of Treaties

As part of the Trent University/History of Western Canada (Winter 2015) course we have decided to change the Infobox to be more specific to the page. The current posted one is not complete, the group shall be meeting tomorrow to finish it up. As we realize we are perhaps not the only wiki editors out there interested in this page we welcome feedback as we progress through our course. If their is something specific you want to see in the Infobox or article in general feel free to talk back to us on this page. Please note that we realize there were major First Nation players that need to be added to the Signatory section of the Info Box. A list is being compiled as I type. Removal of Medal Info

This info box has been taken down temporarily while we format the rest of the page to incorporate a stream-lined table. Take a look at the table on the article's main page, your thoughts? Jj.Metherell (talk) 17:08, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

New Update

The group will be getting together tomorrow morning to add more historical information about the treaties. Do you want to see anything specific added? Let us know on this page.APRenaud (talk) 00:18, 10 March 2015 (UTC). Our meeting was productive! The introduction paragraph is live, let us know what you think! We also gathered some more sources and have begun to hash out the Background component and the newly formed Redress section-- stay tuned!!Jj.Metherell (talk) 23:11, 10 March 2015 (UTC)

New Background Info

Inserted a new paragraph in the background section. We wanted to provide a deeper understanding as to why the numbered treaties were created, why did the government need to obtain the land titles. If you have any comments please contact us on this talk page. Happy St Patty's Day APRenaud (talk) 20:26, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
