Subscription

[edit]

Does anyone know how to buy a subscription to the newspaper from the English site? Toby Douglass 11:27, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I guess the right answer may come from the newspaper itself. If I understand correctly, the Wikipedia's conflict of interest policies may prevent someone from sharing such information here. My earlier reading of the Wikipedia:Talk page guidelines gave me an impression that the talk pages are mostly for discussing the editing of the main article.
There seems to be a Russian-only page about subscription on the newspaper's web site, http://novayagazeta.ru/subs/. It has an email address. Perhaps, computer translation may be helpful, http://www.google.com/translate?langpair=ru%7Cen&u=http://novayagazeta.ru/subs/. ilgiz 19:04, 3 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Novaya gazeta logo.gif

[edit]

Image:Novaya gazeta logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Opinions

[edit]

I just restored the criticism/opinion as a separate section to make text more neutral.Biophys (talk) 20:30, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's nothing POV about pointing out that they're regarded as anti-Putin in the main description. I don't see how anyone could possibly argue against that, let alone provide sources that refute it. Krawndawg (talk) 21:19, 30 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

What happens to the english version?

Funding

[edit]

Apparently, it is no longer funded by Lebedev see here. However, welcome to fix it if there are newer reports about this. My very best wishes (talk) 15:32, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Can you read Russian? Here is what the first sentence of the article you linked to says:
Banker Alexander Lebedev has refused to fund the Novaya Gazeta newspaper, of which he is co-owner.
The Wikipedia article never said that Lebedev funds the newspaper, so why you deleted the paragraph about who owns the newspaper is a complete mystery. I have restored the paragraph, adding a source. (The paragraph had a "citation needed" tag.) Lebedev is now more closely involved with the newspaper than ever, by the way, having appointed himself head of the "investigative department." – Herzen (talk) 18:34, 25 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
First phrase ("English articles on the website are published more erratically.") is unsourced. Reference you provided tells these shares describe situation in 2007, but it also tells that Lebedev "stopped funding" of this newspaper in 2012. So, he is possibly no longer a co-owner? My very best wishes (talk) 01:44, 26 October 2014 (UTC) Also see this: [1], [2]. My very best wishes (talk) 02:07, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
OK, I now read that article to the end. It says that Lebedev said that he might sell out his share, but does not say that he did so. It also says that he used to put money into it (i.e., he "funded" it), but has stopped doing so, and that that is connected with why he might sell his share (to make up for the lost funding). Since the article says that in 2006, he acquired 36% of the shares, but does not say that he has sold any since then, I think the article cannot say that he is not still 39% owner without someone doing OR. This Forbes article is only a year old, so it is very possible that there have been no new developments.
If you want to remove the "more erratically" bit because it is unsourced, I would have no objections. I am not a stickler for sourcing of claims that have no major implications one way or the other. (By the way, the Russian article on this newspaper used a really old source for the 39%/10% share claim. Someone complained about the English article not getting updated, but the Russian one is even worse.) – Herzen (talk) 02:23, 26 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Panama portal?

For some reason, the article is listed on Panama Portal (Panama Papers) in the category at the bottom of the page. Please look into it. Ronniesafarov (talk) 20:42, 17 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Hello,

I have checked the link to the "english version" of Novaya Gazeta (web archive link) on www.virustotal.com, and one of the virus detection engines indicated malware.
