Promotion

Sample credits

The source cited from BBC for the track listing section's sample credits does not verify any of the specific samples used, not in the text nor the video of the interview. The closest thing available is "samples from the likes of Coldplay, MGMT and The Eagles." Dan56 (talk) 02:53, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Mixtape?

Why is this album called a mixtape? Nothing in our definition of mixtapes relates to such an album of songs by one artist, released by himself. --FA2010 (talk) 09:01, 26 October 2012 (UTC)

All/most third-party sources refer to it as such, and the wikipedia article that you refer to says "A mixtape, which usually reflects the musical tastes of its compiler, can range from a casually selected list of favorite songs, to a conceptual mix of songs linked by a theme or mood, to a highly personal statement tailored to the tape's intended recipient." That Ocean did not concede to sample clearance, choosing instead to not release it officially, suggests how much it was about his own tastes. Dan56 (talk) 02:57, 23 December 2012 (UTC)

Merger proposal

I propose that Nostalgia, Lite (album) be merged into this article. The article for Nostalgia, Ultra already has a section about the reissue, while the Nostalgia, Lite article offers no additional content than what was already covered in the main article. Especially given the fact that it was never even released, I think it would be best to merge its content into the main article and redirect it to the section on NU. 68DANNY2 (talk) 20:37, 29 December 2012 (UTC)

Release Date

i recently edited the release date of this album/mixtape to Feb 16, 2011, NOT Feb 18, 2011. i have sources if u want. i edited but someone reversed it. i dont really know how wikipedia works to well so whoever is in charge of this article please contact me somehow. thanks — Preceding unsigned comment added by Noah21c (talk • contribs) 22:29, 25 February 2013 (UTC)

At the article page, you can click the "view history" tab, which shows who and when edited what, etc. Currently, the release date of Feb. 18 is cited with Allmusic as the source, as it appears: "released on February 18, 2011.^[1]" Dan56 (talk) 08:11, 26 February 2013 (UTC)

some blogs had reported about the mixtape on the 16th as well, but not too many since it was his first project and he was relatively unknown. [potholes in my blog: http://potholesinmyblog.com/frank-ocean-nostalgia-ultra-lp/]

and although frank had deleted his initial post of the album from his website to add lyrics and renew the dead link, you can see here that his fellow Odd Future member, rapper Mike G, actually re-blogged the initial post found here http://moracularworld.tumblr.com/post/3333765924

furthermore, running down through franks twitter account shows that he responded to fans and fellow artists on the 16 who were praising his mixtape.

I found a better source from Pitchfork Media here for that Feb. 16 date. Please try and avoid using self-published sources such as blogs and Tumblr, even if they are associated with the recording artist. A rule of thumb is that if the information wasnt covered by a reliable third party source, it probably isnt significant enough to include. Dan56 (talk) 03:12, 27 February 2013 (UTC)
