Thank you for a most refreshing article! One point: "Low ranking titles are ridder (knight )..." you write. Never inn all historical works on Norway have I seen such a claim! Perhaps the road is too long between the old earls and "Franciscus di Ratta, senator of Boulogne" ( who have ever heard of him?)? And perhaps you should reenter the old hauld on your list, as a link bween glories past and newcomers present? Kind regards Eric Haig 07:38, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for the input! Most of the information in the article comes of the internet so as always things might be wrong. I wasn't even aware Norway had a Marquis title when I found the information, but I think the appointments are purely honorary and the recipients might even have no connection to Norway. Hope to see more from you. Inge 11:05, 27 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Existence?

[edit]

Please excuse me, but do titles unofficially exist (like in Germany), or is their use completely forbidden (like in Austria)?Anglius 03:25, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The use of titles for Norwegian noble families is no longer recognized in Norwegian law, nor are such titles (always rare) used socially any longer. See: http://groups.google.com/group/alt.talk.royalty/msg/0768e0f5ea20e692 Lethiere 03:58, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I appreciate your information, sir. Personally, I think that it is ridiculous to have a monarchy without also having a titled aristocracy.--Anglius 04:22, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well many people find things that are unfamiliar to them strange or even ridiculous. Don't worry give it some time and you'll get it. I find it strange that someone is being overly polite in one sentance then go on to insult the governing policy of a country in the other. :)Inge 09:06, 3 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Sir, I was merely bestowing my opinion. Please do not patronise me.--Anglius 21:59, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
When you express your opinions publicly and espeshially in such strong terms you must be prepared to receive harsh comments in return. As for you not wanting to be patronised; People who bestow opinins on topics they know nothing or little about do have some growing to do. Inge 11:32, 5 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
I do not think that I said anything that was excessively controversial. In addition, I believe that I possess sufficient amount of knowledge regarding this subject, sir.--Anglius 03:34, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Jarl of Iceland

[edit]

If this title/position existed until 1308, and Gissur Þorvaldsson held it from its creation to his death in 1268, then who succeeded him? With some more information I think "Jarl of Iceland" could warrant an article of its own and perhaps even a succession box. -- Nidator T / C 02:20, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
