Unsourced and Notability Tag
[edit]This article is notable as it is an educational institution, if Wikipedia recognises The London Film School and The National Film School as notable institutions then the Northern Film School is of the same merit. Unlike most Film production courses, it is attach to a place that is nationally recognised as a Film School.
As for unsourced, this article is clearly sourced to pages from the academic institutions website. A better tag to use is that this article needs expanding on. In time it will. - Brinstar85 (talk) 16:46, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
- Sourcing MUST be from independent sources. Sources that simply refer to the organisations own website don't count. Mayalld (talk) 16:47, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Notability
[edit]Only one of the sources is a reliable source, so notability is still in question. Prematurely removing the notability tag is counterproductive. Please leave it in place until notability is proved beyond doubt. Mayalld (talk) 11:12, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Please specify the sources that are unreliable (the official site you have already stated are unreliable.) However, as far as other sources go, I count two more sources, which one do you have doubt with and please explain why this is. Just adding a notability tag without giving any more information is equally counterproductive, I am trying to better this article, what will it take to be convince you of it's notibility? - Brinstar85 (talk) 14:10, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- leedsfilm.com particularly strikes me as not being a reliable source, although to be honest neither are particularly strong sources. You need to refer to WP:RS which describes what are reliable sources. If the school is indeed notable, then it must surely have figured in the mainstream media at some point. So far ar removing the tags goes, given that when they were added, you thought that both notability and sourcing were fine, you may not be the best judge of this in respect of this article, and it isn't a good idea for you to remove them. Leave that to other editors, who will take a dispassionate look at the question over the coming weeks. Mayalld (talk) 15:02, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- Okay, I'm sorry for removing the tag, I should not have done that. It was the lack of proper advice that made me think my sources were reliable. I have added another. I don't see why the leedsfilm casts doubt into the notability, it is as mainstream as you are going to get. Having a schools showreel shown in an Internationally recognised Film Festival. One of the films already finding a place on Wikipedia. I don't think editors will be too disspassionate, the Film School is notible for it's Alumni, Mark Herman (Director of Brassed Off) and Peter Cattaneo (Director of Full Monty).
Sorry to press you for it, but I could do with specifics, you directed me to WP:RS and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with the sources that I have used. Otherwise I cannot improve on the article. Thanks. - Brinstar85 (talk) 20:56, 31 January 2008 (UTC)
- You also need to read WP:V which goes into additional detail. Whilst not wishing to cast any doubt upon the festival, we have no particular way of judging its standards, and we have no way of knowing whether the festival is widely known. The question of notability comes down to this; Has it been shown that the subject of this article has been mentioned more than trivially by two independent reputable mainstream sources (this would be a good example). Two examples from different news organisations, plus the sources that you have would certainly induce me to de-tag the article. Mayalld (talk) 13:19, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Thankyou for giving me more detail, I'll search some news articles and try and fit them into the Wikipedia article. However I would like to point out at this stage that the page for National Film and Television School has no references at all on the page and the London Film School has three references, all directing to the official site of Film School, I see no news sources or mainstream media citations for these. And these sources have no notability tags attached. - Brinstar85 (talk) 14:44, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
