Title too long

Forgive me if I talk nonsense, I'm not into medicine, but the article title seems to be overly specific. The content in its current form is about invasive and noninvasive methods, and as there seems to be one standard method of non-invasive diagnosis, the one using maternal blood, it doesn't have to be specified in the title.

I suggest to move to the title "Diagnosis of Fetal Aneuploidy", or if you prefer the plural, "Diagnoses of Fetal Aneuploidy". I'm not going to do it myself, though, as I am too much layman in this area and might have missed something important. --Pgallert (talk) 13:16, 1 September 2009 (UTC)

I would agree. The article was originally created as what appeared to be a cut-and-paste copy of a medical journal article, but as no corresponding article could be found, no copyright infringement could be claimed. I suspect the original author tried and failed to get the article published, and just dropped it here rather than toss it in the dustbin. The article discusses current practice as a background for the discussion of the new technique, and it leans heavily toward describing the newer non-invasive techniques, but as there is no specific article on the invasive techniques (although one might argue that prenatal diagnosis comes close), your title seems appropriate. However, per WP:MOSNAME, the title should be Diagnosis of fetal aneuploidy. Other opinions are welcome (although this talk page gets precious few views). Merge to prenatal diagnosis

First of all this article is horribly out of date. See the section Prenatal_diagnosis#Advances_in_Prenatal_Screening. Maternal plasma cell-free DNA tests are already in use in the US. The article completely fails to discuss the most recent advances. Does anybody watch this article? Is anybody going to update it? Second, the article is very poorly written, very incomprehensible, had mistakes in it (the incidence of 9 per 1 000 births is not the incidence of fetal aneuploidy but the incidence of chromosome abnormalities overall (including both aneuploidy and other types of abnormalities). Thirdly, the article is unwarranted. Fetal aneuploidy is just one of the many types of births defects- why should it have its own article about how it is diagnosed prenatally (article which apparently can't be maintained at all)? This can and is discussed in many other articles, such as prenatal diagnosis (a very good article which should be developed even more), as well as in other articles dealing with specific conditions: eg. Down Syndrome has a section on how it is diagnosed prenatally, Turner Syndrome has one, etc. Each article about a medical condition discusses its prenatal diagnosis when relevant. I mean, we don't have a specific article about Diagnosis of cystic fibrosis, this is incorporated in the cystic fibrosis article. So my suggestion would be redirect to prenatal diagnosis, and expand more there if neccessary. 188.25.159.67 (talk) 04:49, 11 March 2012 (UTC)
