The case for deletion
[edit]Let me count the ways.
- For sporting 40 references, the actual list is highly redundant, mostly from four sources. If anyone really gave a damn about this "article," that would have been cleaned up years ago.
- It scans as a term paper, and not a particularly good example. While I don't generally mind abstruse topics, this one stalls me quickly.
- No contributor has yet stepped up to notice that there might be some connection to Barter, and neither article links to the other.
- Similarly, though clearly intending to be authoritative on the topic of time banks (the latter half of this article), it remains entirely ignorant of the preexistence of Time-based currency.
- Only two contributors of any significance: GreenPlaid692 (May 2013) and VickyChristinaDistritoFederal (May 2015).
- Both single-purpose accounts, here making exactly one and two visits respectively, and both long defunct.
- The launcher announced (ineptly)
- Created page with '<! -- EDIT BELOW THIS LINE --> The Non-monetary economy represents work such as household labor, care giving and civic activity that does not have a monetary v...'
- Visiting Special:WhatLinksHere/Non-monetary_economy, the list looks reasonable. However, when I select one at random (Jean Baudrillard), I cannot locate that link; the string monet does not appear anywhere in the article. It's therefore reasonable to suspect that many (if not most) of the "linked pages" are as tenuous.
- Page stats:
- Number of page watchers Fewer than 30 watchers
- Number of redirects to this page 0
The topic addressed in Non-monetary economy is a general case of the more specific Barter, which latter at least has some credibility and support (but don't be misled by the 30-day pageview of 26,244: there's a single spike of 8,500 on 22 Aug). Though it would be irregular, I propose merging Non-monetary economy into Barter unless a case can be made for a better home.

Seeing as the ONLY defender of this article has been Aspects, who only dropped off a load of the usual "be happy!" nonsense, I will begin chopping away the rampant essayism, and work inward from there. Anyone who wants to EDIT is welcome to do so.

- Thanks for the effort. This page should not be deleted because neo liberal capitalism is seen as one of the root causes of the collapse of our environment and other ailments. This is not a new insight ('the quest for money is the root of all evil' according to various sources). To address our predicament, all alternatives to a monetary economy should be collected and Wikipedia is the perfect place for that.
- When I wanted to list those alternatives, I found this page, renamed the sections 1 and 4 to 'embedded' non-monetary economy and inserted my 'non-embedded' ones. It might be better to split this page and use disambiguation but I would not know any names better than the ones I invented for this purpose. The 'embedded' part I left untouched because I know too little about it. I would welcome if sections 1 and 4 were condensed to a single section and rendered more objective by a knowledgeable person (so not by me.)
- Barter was already mentioned so I did not touch that one either. It is about time to list it along with other non-embedded moneyless economies. Notice that many time banks use tradeable coupons which, as a matter of fact, are currencies.
- I hope this page survives! Ramosama (talk) 12:17, 4 December 2022 (UTC)
Ah, progress
[edit]Removed 5Kb from a 30Kb article.
Putative editors, please take notice — no effort in the article has yet been expended to state exactly WHO came up with the topical notion, much less WHEN. There's very little to establish that this entire article is not about some science-fictive concept that would make Bucky Fuller roll his eyes.
I really don't give a damn, but I figure I might find a trunk if I burn away enough brush.

Examples of the "quality" so bravely defended by Aspects:
- ...both kinds of which both types of work are still moderately gendered types of work.
- Education and caregiving in particular highlight were assistance is needed and often not provided.
Thanks for all the "help," buddy.

- Like I stated in my edit summary, I removed the prod since the nomination said it could be improved through editing, which is not a reason for deletion and since then you have edited the article to improve it. If you feel after your attempts to improve the article that it is still not worthy of inclusion on Wikipedia, then you should start at discussion at WP:AFD. Aspects (talk) 23:13, 2 October 2018 (UTC)
This article needs to be shortened
[edit]There is a lot of content in this article. Much of it is not relevant. There also need to be a definition of a "nonmonetary economy" because currently it seems to have descended into "any labor that benefits another that it not rewarded with cash."
I have high hopes for this article.
I deleted significant portions of this article that I did not find relevant. If you feel that they are relevant, let's discuss that. AbrahamWright (talk) 19:51, 23 August 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks, as stated earlier, I would appreciate if someone can split the page i.e. devote one lemma to the embedded and one to the non-embedded economy -- and find suitable names for the dedicated pages. The original, embedded part perhaps as something expressing unpaid work (suggesting that there are payments) and my contribution (non-embedded, autonomous) just as non-monetary economy. I am sorry I can not devote more time. Ramosama (talk) 19:47, 7 September 2023 (UTC)
