Suggestions for improvement
Things to note- the marriage rate between Hispanic whites and non-Hispanic whites is very high. Naturally children of these marriages are also Hispanic white, having inherited Hispanic status from the Hispanic white parent. This is one cause of decreased percentage of non-Hispanic white births. In addition another thing that isn't taken into consideration is that the Census has changed significantly since 1960, for example in 1960 there was no effort made to count illegal aliens (rectified in the 1980 census which saw a steep drop in the non-Hispanic white percentage) and before the 2000 census Americans could not choose multiple races (again this resulted in a steep drop for non-Hispanic whites). These are also points which could possibly be included in the White Americans article. Essentially with Census definitions as they currently are it is impossible to know how many white children are born each year, though I would guess between 55% and 66% of children are white if we term white as being mostly of European, Middle Eastern or North African heritage. Though again I stress that the sheer number of "White native Americans" and "White African Americans" who exploded onto the Census after 2000 really muddies the waters in regards to knowing who is actually from which race. I don't want to insult anyone but if your claim to African heritage for example is "my distant ancestor was a freedman who passed and became white 200 years ago" you're just confusing people. People should really only claim mixed race status if they had a grandparent or parent who was not white rather than relying on relatives they've never met in ages passed. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 96.231.17.247 (talk) 02:08, 2 August 2013 (UTC)
% Growth sorting broken
Going to 'Population by state or territory' and sorting the table by '% Growth 2000-2010' gives the first four values of -20.7, -10.4, -28.1, -55.3. Positive numbers appear to sort correctly. Sorting by '% pop 1990-2010' appears to be effectively random. This is on a recent version of Chrome/Windows. I haven't tested other browsers. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 216.113.168.148 (talk) 00:45, 5 February 2014 (UTC)
Oh boy...
Please don't tell me there will be infobox images for this. Bulldog123 00:39, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
- There had better not be. From Wikipedia:Categorization/Ethnicity, gender, religion and sexuality. "While a race-specific category could be implemented where race has a specific relation to the topic, the intersection of subcategories of Category:Race are never applied to subcategories of Category:People". The article describes 'white' as a 'race'... AndyTheGrump (talk) 18:35, 13 January 2011 (UTC)
0.1% growth Demographic increase of non-hispanic whites is very low, just 0.1% during the last decade, but if we take into account white immigrants...U.S. non-hispanic white population has NOT INCREASED AT ALL, so it is similar to the trend in Germany but much lower than that in most European countries (in Scandinavia, France, Netherlands, U.K....increase was over 0.3%)--79.148.122.214 (talk) 17:45, 31 March 2011 (UTC)
- This is a plain racist adgenda wiki page! these data gives support to racist supporters and others who seek to be protectionists. next wiki will probably start posting the data on how many white women are in mixed relationships or the growth rate of mixed race children. This wiki page should be shut down and banned!! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.151.231.194 (talk) 19:17, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- Racists will use this info to try and stop immigration both legal and illegal. they will also use it to call for nativist policies that help promote and increase the non-white population of the country. that is pure racisim at its worst! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 72.151.231.194 (talk) 19:52, 22 June 2011 (UTC)
- I have no idea what is wrong with you, but you should just not come back to wikipedia if reality hurts your feelings and the desire of the majority of American people to keep America as it always has been makes you rage. Also I'm doubtful of the first poster's assertion that white population growth in the USA is lower than in Europe, when the white Americans have a higher birthrate than most white Europeans (save for small countries like Ireland, Sweden and Iceland).76.78.244.42 (talk) 02:57, 22 March 2012 (UTC)
- As a committed anti-racist, a committed Wikipedian, and a committed demographer, I think this page should exist. This is valuable information about current demographic trends in the U.S. The information isn't presented in a way that's particularly partisan (there's nothing on here about "how many white women are in mixed relationships" or any shit like that). It's relatively straightforward information on the long-term decline of the white population in the U.S. (which I personally think is great news). Shutting this page down would fly in the face of what Wikipedia is supposed to be about: free access to information, without imposition of any political agenda. - I do not fully understand all of this information about the U.S. and demographics. Why do you think it is great news? Thank you and sorry for my English! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.49.242.16 (talk) 04:53, 3 May 2014 (UTC)
Capitalization
I think "white", "black", "non-white" color terms should be lower case since they are common nouns (colors). E.g The title of this page should be "Non-Hispanic whites" and we should use "white Americans" just as we use "black Americans". Jojalozzo 02:34, 20 July 2014 (UTC)
Re: North Africans
No one in the US considers North Africans white. Don't take Wikipedia seriously when it comes to race, as the people editing these are clearly pushing an agenda.

the map on the top of the page is incorrect. I noticed that it has michigan with less then 50% non Hispanic white. Michigan has to be already 75% non Hispanic white. If michigan is incorrect it's possible other states are. I don't know how to correct it so just wanted to let ppl know
North Africans
As Catalan ie white people with ancestors who lived in north africa it always surprises me those are considered as whites in the US. They are dark skinned, with only average 10% european genom, the rest being a mix of arab, black african and east african as indigenous berbers. Gollan (talk) 08:56, 4 April 2020 (UTC)
Unlike in the U.S., the UK calls Such a Group "MENA" Middle East/North Africa. The real reason the U.S. calls such Groups "white" {Lower case 'w' intentionally chosen be Media to demean}, is for the following
•To overcount Whites in the Census ¶To overcount crimes committed by "whites" ¶¶To conceal crimes committed by non-Whites •To conceal the massive collapse of European-American Birth Rates below Extinction Level •To increase rates of Race-Mixing (Since most White Women don't know Arabs & Turks aren't White, they assume it's a White Dude w/ a Nice Tan, until 9 months later & her Blonde Genes get erased) •Finally, to conceal the Numbers & Privilege middle east decent {censored} have in the U.S.
The above were also the reason obviously non-White Latinos were falsely called "white Hispanics" for the past 40 years. Latinos are obviously, overwhelmingly Native Central/South American. Their Vital Statistics (& politics) most closely mirror Native American/Alaska Native Status trends, ironically while "Asian" have near universal political leanings, they have very different cultural and vital statistics distribution & should be split into Regional Asian Groups. Arab/Berber=West Asian; Persian/Turk (& Caucasian)=Central Asian; Pakistani/Indian/Bengali/Sri= South Asian; Burma to Filipino=S.E. Asian. North Asian covers everyone from the Urals to the Bering Sea. But Globalists couldn't care less.
Long story short, the U.S. Gov't has been at war against its own White Population since 1965 at the latest. A political, cultural, financial, economic, Racial & Genetic TOTAL War. Since Arabs & others feelings don't matter in such a war the Gov't couldn't care less about identifying them accurately, even the "White Nationalist" President Trump rejected Arab & Turkish calls for the 2020 Census to label them Asian or Other (identifying them accurately would make it easier for him to deport them)2603:7080:CB3F:5032:109A:B65A:CEC:982B (talk) 16:26, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
199.3 million or 196.8 million?
Which number is correct? Because there is 2 million people worth of difference there. Though I would understand if the first number includes those whites who legally belong to indian tribes and thus also identify as indians, since I know they make up like half the native american population of the USA which amounts to about 4 million total.
Salma Hayek and Andy Garcia are White Hispanic?
Salma Hayek is mestizo like Andy Garcia. Do not set? Remove your photos from there because they do not look white as Xtina Aguilera, Pitbull or an Argentine here. --Derekitou (talk) 19:55, 11 October 2015 (UTC)

Problematic page description
On the mobile version of this page (and when you search for "Non-Hispanic whites" from the Wikipedia homepage), this page's subheading is "the real Whites from Europe." The use of the term "real Whites" is racist, and this subheading needs to be removed immediately. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2601:1C0:6702:52E0:885A:2D19:FB65:B944 (talk) 03:29, 4 August 2016 (UTC)
Even calling the WASP population that founded the United States, that wouldn't exist without them, "non-Hispanic white" (capital letters placed for emphasis) is Cruelly Demeaning and racist against the Whites who founded the United States. The US doesn't use terms like Mexico does such as "Mestizo" or "Castillan" All those people are called "Hispanic" regardless of race. In the past the Census hid massive Mexican immigration by just having White, Black and Other. Most Mestizo filled in "White".
The Census, should label Race accurately, but it never will. Chicanos, or Mestizos, or Black Hebrew Israelites couldn't care less about a statistical head count. The abstract means nothing to the Future American People, just as the Future Europeans will simply erase every trace of the Old, leaving them only as Boogie Men in folk tales.2603:7080:CB3F:5032:109A:B65A:CEC:982B (talk) 16:37, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
Mixed race population
Should the mixed race population (i.e. "white in combination with another race") be included in the header or as a note below? The state-by-state data is "white alone"Patapsco913 (talk) 16:48, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
Do the people who fill the Census in with "white in combination with another race" even see themselves as "Mixed-race"? Or are they the folks who get trace amounts of "other" in their DNA test? All the Mixed people I've known would call themself their Non-White side. So a person with even under 40% African in their DNA results would still call themselves Black. It's still a huge data problem that the CDC doesn't identify mixed race births since they only identify birth by "Race of Birth Mother", leaving such Americans to have to wait every 10 years for the Census. so far the last census revealed White Mother Non-White Father Births were as high as 20%! About 3 million Ghost Briths were allowed to slip by! As for the Article, White + another Race isn't exactly a "White" Person Hopefully someone sane takes over the census Bureau & straightens things out2603:7080:CB3F:5032:109A:B65A:CEC:982B (talk) 16:48, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
