Merge/delete?
[edit]Seems like this is essentially the same as Pastoralism. Perhaps this one should be merged into that one, if there is anything here worth merging? Pfly 05:34, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- ♥♥♥♥none of this is true but, just saying do not look information from up here none of it is real♥♥♥♥Oh and also this sentence seems contradictory: Nomadic pastoralism was practiced mainly before the Neolithic Revolution. During the revolution, most pre-humans began domesticating animals and plants for food and started forming cities. ..if animal domestication is dated to the Neolithic Revolution, how could pastoralism of any kind exist before that? - Agreed, this should either be merged with pastoralism or simply deleted and redirected to pastoralism. Nomadic pastoralism is one of the two general types of pastoralism and already receives adequate mention in the main article. It does not require a separate page. I would merge it but I am new to editing on Wikipedia and do not feel confident in my ability to do so. --anon 72.95.228.27 04:18, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
Having reviewed the articles on nomadism, pastoralism, and transhumance, I would suggest that the best move would be to delete this article and redirect to transhumance, which best explains the aspects of nomadic pastoralism. If there are no objections or alternative proposals by 10 September 2008 I will complete the move. Thanks! - Damian Doyle (talk) 11:48, 3 September 2008 (UTC)
- These topics are more distinct than suggested above. As far as I can see there are four concepts:
- Nomadism is just moving about, so as well as nomadic pastoralism it includes nomadic hunter-gathering and other kinds.
- Pastoralism is forage-based livestock farming, so includes both nomadic pastoralism and settled pastoralism such as ranching.
- Nomadic pastoralism is moving about with grazing livestock over relatively large distances.
- Transhumance is moving with livestock seasonally over relatively small distances within an otherwise settled culture.
- As far as I can see these concepts do each justify an article.
- Confusingly the transhumance article currently covers two topics: what I would call transhumance proper, and also what is called in that article "nomadic transhumance", which as far as I can see is the same as nomadic pastoralism. I have proposed (see Talk:Transhumance) that the latter material is moved here. Otherwise I think the current situation is fine. Richard New Forest (talk) 15:36, 9 January 2009 (UTC)
- No further comments, so nomadic material incorporated here from transhumance. Richard New Forest (talk) 19:11, 5 February 2009 (UTC)
