Removal of Category Israeli Jews
[edit]This has been thoroughly discussed and resolved years ago, specifically in the case of this directory here.[1] See WP:EGRS for general guidelines. To wit, there are non-religious Jews. Being a Jew and being an observant follower of a religion called Judaism are two different things. This is well established by everyone from Nuremberg Laws to the state of Israel. Now, about whether it's notable in the context. This is also thoroughly discussed in various contexts. Categories exist not to emphasize what's notable, but to make it easier to classify people, things, etc. For example, the whole Category:Women mathematicians exist even if the gender of a mathematician is completely irrelevant to her/his work, at least in the 21-st century. Although this may seem like WP:OSE, I think the evidence is overwhelming. I will rv back again unless I hear a serious argument. Mhym (talk) 16:12, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- See WP:BLPCAT: category tags concerning religious beliefs should not be used unless the subject publicly self-identifies with the tag and their beliefs are relevant to their notable activities. Note that this is in a Wikipedia policy, and therefore has much greater force than the sense of some random CfD. —David Eppstein (talk) 16:21, 4 August 2009 (UTC)
- Ok, if you're one of those who believe that it's an ethnicity rather than a religion, see Wikipedia:Categorization/Ethnicity, gender, religion and sexuality where the same requirements of being documented in published sources and being relevant for the subject's notability apply to ethnicity as well as to religion. —David Eppstein (talk) 01:53, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
- Uhm, I disagree. In fact, as I mentioned earlier, my reading of WP:EGRS is in my favor. But since you seem to care for the matter more that I do, I give up. Mhym (talk) 05:05, 11 August 2009 (UTC)
