[edit]This bio should not be deleted. Noel Hill is one of the most sought after concertina instrumentalists and teachers in Irish traditional music. He's not widely recorded, but universally respected among Irish traditional musicians worldwide. Definitely a keeper. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.156.131.142 (talk) 17:13, 28 March 2009 (UTC)
quite notable indeed
[edit]i agree that it should not be deleted. he is considered the benchmark for all concertina playing for the last 30+ years. whether you hate him or adore him, all concertina players are compared to him. he was a producer for music programs in the 80's in ireland (come west along the road). he has appeared on tv many times. here are some clips:
on the pure drop in the 1980's.
hosting the tv show geantraí in 2007. note that the black and white clip is of HIMSELF playing as a child on television in ireland.
here he is being interviewed as an authority in the RTE special canúinti ceoil in 2007. he starts talking at 3:06. notice he says "and i toured with Micho Russell".
here is another appearance of him on irish tv.
he was again on geantrai the last week of december of 2008 (i dont have a clip).
other info:
Matt Molloy, was a guest musician on noel's album "noel hill and tony linnane" in 1979, during the height of matt malloy's popularity. noel hill has played with planxty, and toured with such greats as the irish tv's irish musician of the year for 2005, james kelly. in my link below (story 2), Séamus Ennis is quoted as calling him the greatest concertina player in ireland. part of me thinks that if someone NOTABLE thinks someone else is NOTABLE, they just might be...
when he was brutally attacked in a pub earlier this year, it was NOTABLE enough to be mentioned on the national radio news in ireland. i do not have a copy of this recording, as it was in the irish language and it was a live broadcast (i live in america and do not listen to/watch the english language version of the news in ireland). here is some links to the news stories about him being attacked: story 1, story 2, story 3.
his disdain for the band The Pogues was so great, that they made a song making fun of him: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1TIoOIfqSo ( forum thread legitimate journalism). if he is NOTABLE enough for the pogues to make fun of, i think he is notable enough for wikipedia.

"At the Abbey Tavern"
[edit]I removed the reference to Christy Moore "At the Abbey Tavern" from the session musician discography. Noel Hill's current website does not provide a discography, so there is no longer any reference to "At the Abbey Tavern" there. Turophile (talk) 00:14, 7 March 2017 (UTC)
